Tl;dr: This mod changes the Ins*ne trait to 'Eccentric' and removes/replaces all instances of the word ins*ne and others like it. Depending on the flavour, other words with ableist connotations like 'stupid' are also removed, and Gloomy is changed to Depressed to reflect Depressive Mood Disorder, thereby providing a more explicit disability representation without belittling anyone for it.

Update 13/04/15: This is a bit of a gamble, but I'm 90% sure these updated mods are compatible both with Get to Work and Outdoor Retreat, the first Expansion and Game Packs respectively. My certainty is dampened somewhat by the fact that I don't have Outdoor Retreat; however, my ability to change the GTW STBL before I bought the game, and it having worked, reassures me that it ought to work for you guys too. But if you still get any text string issues, please let me know and I'll try to dig in.
For the sake of not unnecessarily triggering anyone, something I want to avoid, I've also retracted the changes of Sadness Hotline to Suicide Hotline within the depressed and intensedepressed flavours of the mod.

Update 02/01/15: I've updated 'intense' and 'intensedepressed', having realized too late that I forgot to remove two instances of 'lame'. If those words are also sore spots for those who downloaded those variants, then I apologise for the oversight, and recommend a re-download. I'm pleased that people are getting use out of this thing besides me, though!
My next goal is to work out how to A: replace the icon of a straitjacket to something better reflecting the mod's changes, or B: replace the trait with something else altogether.

As an autistic person, seeing casual ableist language thrown around in video games amongst other media is pretty upsetting to me, particularly when it comes to the word "Ins*ne" and the trait that encapsulates it. It's conflating unusual decisions made by neurotypicals with those made by mentally ill people at best, and portraying mentally ill people as something 'other' from society at worst. So I made this text-edit mod to try and remove said trait and said words from my game, and am uploading it here on the off chance other people share my convictions.

This mod's compatible with patch level 1.3.18.1010! (That's why the packages are all called V2, since this is a build from a previous mod.) To further help you customize your gameplay experience to best suit your comfort levels, I’ve divided the mod into four separate flavours:

noableismV2.package changes the more obvious ableist language to non-ableist alternatives, such as the name of the Ins*ne trait to Eccentric, including editing the language emotional mood-swings accordingly.* Leaves ‘Gloomy’ as ‘Gloomy’ and words like ‘stupid’ intact.
noableismdepressedV2.package works as above, but also changes ‘Gloomy’ to ‘Depressed’ or ‘Depression’ depending on the context.
noableismintenseV2.package works as noableismV2, but goes deeper by removing all instances of ‘stupid’, ‘idiot’, ‘fool’, and other words that you wouldn’t think were ableist at first glance. Gloomy remains ‘Gloomy’.
noableismintensedepressedV2.package has the deeper linguisic changes of noableismintense, but the Gloomy -> Depressed markings of noableismdepressed.

After downloading and extraction, place the one you'll be using in the unpackedmod for best game performance. Happy, and safe, Simming!

* = I'm aware that conflating mood swings with 'eccentricity' can in itself be ableist depending on interpretation. Ideally, I would replace the trait with something else altogether - like a trait that doubles the intensity of certain emotion-inducing moodlets, a'la Over-Emotional - but my experience with game coding does not go as deep as that yet.

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.
