Fuck off. Also, look up Maria Bamford. Idiot.

I'm not saying that there aren't good female comedians, but they're dykes or Jews or butch. And now some of them are pretty as well even if they're a bit butch.... ... They missed my point, so now I need to write an essay that women apparently can't read either.

Wow. What a jack ass.

I like Hitchens, but the most he'll ever mean to me is that I met one of my best friends on the day he died.

It seems you didn't watch the video, since the video absolutely does not say there aren't great female comedians. However, Unknown_Artist apparently didn't watch the video either, for exactly the same reason.

The video says women have less selective pressure to be funny than men, so there are fewer funny women than men. I don't know why that's any more controversial than saying that men are larger than women on average, or more athletic than women on average, or that women are more sympathetic than men on average.

But that doesn't mean Unknown_Artist isn't an idiot or an asshole for posting it as a reply to any female comedian he doesn't like.

Oh shit I thought he was talking about the video of Maria Bamford. haha I was barely paying attention. I need to stop visiting this site haha

Im really curious to know what "selective pressure" means, to you.

If I remember correctly, what Hitchens was talking about was how he figured that, generally speaking, women might not have to rely on wit to make a good impression the same way that, say, an unattractive man might have to, so fewer women need to learn to be funny. That ignores all kinds of other factors in people's lives, as though the only reason you should ever need to be funny is in order to get laid. Well, I watched it a while ago, so you should probably just check out the video.

Props guys, I learned something. Selective pressure. I've thought about that in terms of gender, but more especially in relation to attractiveness. In my experience, really hot people aren't often funny - they never needed to develop the skill. I didn't know there was a term for it.

But then again, to view it as I said I do is to ignore other reasons for creating comedy. I know a male comedian who is hilarious and a model, but his self esteem is extremely low and I don't doubt he has experienced depression. Comedians see the world differently, communicate those perceptions, and people laugh out of the awkwardness or pain of having their own perception suddenly and sharply altered, and you don't have to be 'unattractive' or male to have that different lens. However, I find women tend more towards 'practical' vocations (that seems to be shifting now), and are less likely to pursue being a comedian, so a lot of it is probably also a case of many women are funny - they're just not broadcasting it. They're working in an insurance firm or Woolworths.

Plus, they have douchebags posting that video whenever they have half a chance to discourage someone. I thought your joke was funny. Hopefully I get to see your delivery someday.

I think there are a lot of hilarious female comics but how do you choose Maria bamford as your example? Watch this and tell me she's funny with a straight face

I'm already very familiar with her work. Do you think I'd recommend someone I've never heard??

I laughed. Have you ever watched Paula Deen?

I haven't and I still laughed. Part of the gag that you don't see just from this bit is her "normal" voice is the nasal one and the people giving instructions is her "other people's normal" voice. It's funny every time she goes to the second one. It's a sort of complicated self-deprecation. She's awesome.

I can't; I'm laughing too hard.

I don't think she's funny either.
