Eeeh.

Sorry you hurt your foot, but thats little excuse for repaying ignorance with venom.

The "f-word" isn't particularly offensive in my native Dutch. It's probably more comparable to "hell" in level of acidity.

"Hoe de f- zou ik dat moeten weten?" ≈ "How the hell should I know?"

I really don't understand the downvotes here, since you do have a point.

Not sure why a beard and head phones mean anything in a game store to be honest, since employees will have them.

The teen poked him on the shoulder because he probably tried to get his attention, but OP had his headphones in. Kid asked a question and OP acted like an asshole. All he could have said was, "Sorry, I don't work here" and the situation would have stopped.

I don't understand why people now a days don't treat each other like humans, but would rather answer with a hostile response. Shit, it's like everyone wants to be angry all the time, I really don't get it.

Exactly my point! Why are we such assholes these days? What happened to being nice to one another without having to be given a reason to.

Agreed, the situation could have honestly been avoided if he just said he didn't work there. He really didn't give the teen any inclination that he didn't, except for reacting in a very negative way, which honestly didn't lead the kid to believe any difference, since he still had a follow up question.

Oh well, I'd rather deal with people a little nicer, and have a better day than being angry all the time.

Probably because OP was in pain, frustrated with being cooped up all the time, and felt it was glaringly obvious that he didn't work at the shop.
It's human nature to have off days, at least all he did was swear at a teenager.
Also, do game shop employees really wear headphones? I've never seen one, but I'm UK based so it may be different here. It seems really counterproductive to have somebody who works with the public wearing something that means they can't interact easily.

glaringly obvious

I really wouldn't say that. Depending on what type of game store he was at, they can realistically look like whatever. I've been to hobby stores, and game stores where guys have Viking beards and where metalica t-shirts, so this guy have having a beard and wearing headphones really wouldn't seem out of the norm.

And like I said, having an off day sucks, and sure OP isn't in the greatest of situations, but like I said, I'd rather treat people with a little less hostility.

Take a look at it from the kids perspective. He goes to a store, wants to buy some games, I'm assuming the store was relatively empty (OP, kid and employee) asks the person closes to him who he assumed was working there what the price of the games he would like to purchase would. Rather than an oops you made a mistake, he has to deal with a hostile asshole, (as evidence by OP's "I have to resort to using my crutch as a weapon trust me, getting one of them slammed on your feet will make you back off).

Seriously, what normal person's response to someone asking them a question, is saying "The fuck (hell) do I know" and then immediately thinking of being violent?

I know we're all here to laugh at how silly people are an assume we're working when we're obviously not. But in this case, I'm chalking it up to OP having a bad day and just being an asshat.
