“Check your privilege” is a quick, snappy way of challenging behaviors that reinforce dominance in society, especially along the lines of racism and white
supremacy. The phrase could invite a discussion where two distinct
people or groups can better relate to each other and continue
harmoniously.Unfortunately, that’s not usually what happens. But it could.

Seeing people of one’s race widely represented in mass media is white privilege.

Not being followed or harassed while shopping is white privilege

Being much more likely to encounter someone of the same race when asking to speak with an authority figure is white privilege. 

And those are only 3 everyday examples.

• Not being stopped and frisked by police because you are black or brown  
  
• Not being pulled over by police because you are black or brown  
  
• Not being more likely to be killed by police  
  
• Not being suspended from school more often for the same types of infractions as white students who are not suspended
  
• Not being kicked out of school or denied jobs because of your natural hair
  
• Being less likely to get a job if you have a college degree and NO criminal record, than a white person with a high school diploma and a felony. 
  

We can go all day long and list facts and stats like these. Google them. They are all true.
