Are you fucking kidding me, reddit?

Wouldn't want to stop funding the NSA and bombs and bullets and drones and the drug war and mass imprisonment of millions of victimless "criminals" and militarized police and unwavering support for Israel and secret wars and other secret wars and corporate welfare, right?

Yay taxes.

EDIT: lol downvotes for explaining what taxes actually pay for. Would it have been better if I said all taxes pay for is NASA, helping the poor, and unicorns? lol

Maybe you should actually look at the budgets of the federal, state, and local governments, and then you'll see where you are wrong in terms of where our taxes go.

Are you trying to tell me that nearly a trillion dollars a year doesn't go to the pentagon? Or maybe that the NSA doesn't cost 75 billion dollars every year? Because that's a lot of food and housing for poor people. I guess you and everyone else in this thread don't have a problem with it judging by the downvotes.

You said "what taxes actually pay for". Implying that is ALL they pay for. It isn't. It isn't even what MOST of our taxes pay for.

Semantics. My point is still as valid as ever.

No, accuracy of data is not "semantics".

So taxes aren't actually paying for all of the evil shit I mentioned? I never argued even once that that's all they paid for. You did.

Semantics.

Your entire argument and use of the phrase "what taxes actually pay for" is meaningless unless you are trying to argue from the basis that such things are all or nearly all of "what taxes actually pay for".

Because otherwise, we should have been looking through pages of budgets and summaries of types of spending, and discussing what parts should be reduced, by how much, and why.

But as it was, you started talking about things that are the minority of what taxes are spent on. If it is about "Wouldn't want to stop funding..." when it comes to arguing about taxes, it would make sense to talk about the types of spending that are taking the most money in taxes.

When you made your original post did you think that such things were the majority of what all taxes pay for?

And essential law enforcement, and armies to defend you if Russia starts blowing you up, and health care so your foot doesn't fall off, and fire departments to stop your house burning down....

Yeah, taxes suck. But they are essential.

It was just a quick example of things. I actually mentioned infrastructure being awesome in another comment I recently posted :)

And essential law enforcement, and armies to defend you if Russia starts blowing you up, and health care so your foot doesn't fall off, and fire departments to stop your house burning down....

None of which require compulsory funding.

And essential law enforcement

lol. I would hardly call them essential.

and armies to defend you if Russia starts blowing you up

When was the last time the army defended this country? lol

and health care so your foot doesn't fall off

The government made health care more expensive by getting involved in the market. Just like everything else it sinks its filthy hands into. Less efficient, and more expensive. Prove me wrong.

Yeah, taxes suck. But they are essential to providing the military industrial complex the money it needs to kill people overseas

FTFY

Right, you try living in a country where all crime isn't stopped. That's just idiotic thinking.

It's a failsafe. That way if you do get attacked, you're safe. It doesn't matter if you are attacked or not.

No, it didn't. Look up the statistics. On average, Americans are paying less for healthcare.

No, they're essential to keep your life so comfy. If you think you'd have decent quality roads (shoutout to the other redditor!), reasonably non corrupt police (making the police purely for profit will massively increase corruption. Now there's repercussions for being caught, for profit there isn't), fuck even Google Fiber uses tax money to help it roll out.

Hating doing taxes is one thing, but being stupid enough to not realise how amazing our lives are right now and how helpful a government which isn't typically (yes, I mean this- housing the poor hardly profits people) for profit is extremely helpful.

Right, you try living in a country where all crime isn't stopped.

Seeing as there are millions and milions of victimless laws, you're right, I would love to see most of the victimless crimes go unpunished.

That's just idiotic thinking.

Right, because ruining the lives of millions of peaceful drug users is the right thing to do.

It's a failsafe. That way if you do get attacked, you're safe. It doesn't matter if you are attacked or not

See above remark.

Americans are paying less for healthcare.

Before the government got involved, people used to pay one days wages for healthcare a year. Until the AMA was created and lobbied for lodges and low-cost health care to be illegal.

making the police purely for profit will massively increase corruption

Private security supplied by companies such as State farm would have no incentive to enforce victimless laws. They would, however, have an incentive to protect you life/property. Something our current laws enforcment has no obligation to do.

Hating doing taxes is one thing, but being stupid enough to not realise how amazing our lives are right now and how helpful a government which isn't typically (yes, I mean this- housing the poor hardly profits people) for profit is extremely helpful.

WTF are you talking about? I don't want to pay for bombs and bullets and the NSA and the like and I'm turned into some evil Koch brothers caracature. lol

You're one of those guys. "Weed is illegal so fuck the police!" I'm done with this discussion. If you want to look up health or any other topic, Google it. There are plenty of resources out there and put simply your numbers are off.

I'm 13 because I don't want my money being used to kill innocent people?

Pretty heartless of you. You should have a little more compassion for those suffering the effects of our bombs and bullets overseas. You must be a conservative.
