Prisoner's don't have the same rights regular citizens do (LDO). Screwing with your hormones sure as hell isn't the taxpayers problem. That's on you. If that was important to you, stay out of jail.

Those hormones were prescribed before hand, and they are CHEAP. Think 20 dollars a month. This isnt cancer therapy we are talking about.

As I said to another poster:

But do you mind paying for other medicines such as anti-depressants for inmates? You realize these drugs are incredibly cheap at the level the government would be paying for them and it's not okay to arrest someone, and decide that regardless of the fact a doctor has prescribed these drugs that you're not going to give them to the patient. People need to realize transgender people are not transvestites who put on a dress for kicks and giggles. It's a serious mental health issue. If you deprive someone like this of their treatment, you've done exactly the same as depriving a manically depressed inmate of their anti-depressants.

It actually is the taxpayers problem to pay for medical care for prisoners

What counts as valid and necessary medical care is the whole issue.

If a patient demanded a nose job and that a new nose was part of his "identity" I don't give a shit. Cosmetic procedures or procedures to allow someone to live the lifestyle they want are not medically necessary.

Doctors not inmates. You know people we can consider experts.

In this case, it IS medically necessary. Transition is the only recognized treatment for gender identity disorder... and it's a heck of a lot more fiscally responsible to pay up for the hormones now than to put her on suicide watch later.

Transition is the only recognized treatment for gender identity disorder.

Well Dr. McHugh, former psychiatrist in chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital disagrees with you a bit.

Here is a fantastic opinion piece that he wrote about this subject in the WSJ:

That's one dissenting voice and he also happens to have religious bias if you chose to do your own investigation. The majority of doctors say that vaccines are important yet there are some who disagree. Later, we hear about one of their patients dies from [insert completely preventable disease].

OK, one guy vs. the overall consensus of the medical community. Who am I gonna believe? Hmm...

Except that there's a shit ton of research that tells us that transitioning is medically necessary. Beside's, hormones are fucking cheap, and she was already on them before she was in prison.

You're an idiot.

Trans are people who don't feel rught in their bodies. They feel that their in the wrong sex. They will feel this way there whole lives til they can get treatment. Hormone treatment among other thing. My best friend is trans and was super depressed. After recievung treatment and coming out, its like seeing a new, confident, wonderful person emerge from such depression.

Remember, being trans is the same as being gay. You have no control over it. You don't make the choice to be gay or trans. That is just who you are.

Now answer everyone else who challanged you.

They have the right to medical treatment. That includes hormone therapy. QQ somewhere else, broseph.
