why are you guys so against selfies

Because it is one of, if the the most self absorbed and narcissistic trends that I can think of.

Edit- sorry to piss off an entire generation, but care to explain why taking pictures of your self by the millions, if not billions, is not narcissistic instead of just downvoting?

You don't have a very good imagination if taking a photo of yourself hiking is the most self absorbed and narcissistic trend you can think of.

You are wrong. Here is why.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6429358

Wait, not that one, this one.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/close-encounters/201501/are-selfies-sign-narcissism-and-psychopathy

Shit, ignore that, try this one.

http://dailylounge.com/the-daily/entry/science-confirms-that-selfies-are-the-worst

Fuck you google, you are wrong, and you just struck out. Selfies are awesome and I am awesome because I take them I am too awesome to be a narcissist, your top three results were wrong but surely the fourth top hit will prove my point, because let's face it, I am never wrong.

http://m.disclose.tv/news/Selfies_Linked_to_Narcissism_Addiction_and_Mental_Illness/101410#DTV

Oh wait, selfies are narcissistic, and people are too infatuated with there own importance that the can't acknowledge it?

No, that can't be right. Reddit says they are great.

I appreciate you agreeing with me, but you did not have to be an ass about it.

If any of these people cared about the world around them more than themselves they would have looked this up themselves.

You do good work, but you probably just wasted your time.

Fuck you. The selfie assholes are not the only ones full of themselves around here.

he wasnt being an ass, he was being sarcastic and over the top to emphasise his point. His post wouldnt be as interesting if he just said ' Selfies = Narcissism, here are studies ...'

So theatricality and showmanship are what reddit eants. Got it.

people want good content, but they dont want to go on the internet to read the Encyclopedia Brittanica from cover to cover, they come for stories, opinions, comedy etc, which (hopefully) has some usefulness to it.

If you want to just learn facts, go to school

Did someone break your sarcasm detector?

It's not narcissistic because you are not taking a selfie for the sole purpose of admiring a picture of yourself you moron. You are taking it simply to have a memory of you in a place having fun. A picture of a goddamned tourist attraction without you in it is a dumb photo, because almost anything in the world you can get a better photo of with a google search. A selfie makes it personal.

A selfie in front of a tourist attraction is just a dumb picture that you happen to be in.

If the picture is not worth taking unless you take it of yourself is either for a dating profile, or it is not worth taking.

People seem to think that a picture is suddenly more important or has additional value simply because they are in it.

That seems pretty self absorbed to me. Almost, narcissistic, wouldn't you say?

No, I wouldn't.

Every one has an opinion.

sorry if people want a picture of themselves in a cool place.

[–]Mousse_is_Optional 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (12子コメント)

Yeah, having pictures of yourself is so narcissistic. I don't know about you, but in every photo album I have, I go through every picture that I happen to be in and carefully edit myself out. Even group photos. Anyone who doesn't do this, I automatically think less of. It's so easy these days with digital cameras and photoshop. Before that I actually had to use a pair of scissors.

Group photos are different. You are taking pictures to capture a moment in time with other people.

A selfie by yourself however, is nothing but photographic masturbation.

You are not commemorating anything that is not already acknowledged by the fact that the picture exists. You took the picture, we know you were there, why do you have to ruin the composition of the picture by sticking your face in the middle of it?

What if it's a picture of me in place like at a park. Years late I'll see the photo and remember that and exclaim about how fat/thin I was or how my hair hanged or my poor style choices. I'll remember that day and how tired/excited I was or that the weather was unseasonably chilly.

If you were worth remembering at that point, someone else would have been willing to take the picture.

I still the the picture of the park would be more valuable than one that you decided would be more valuable with you in it unilaterally.

Worth remembering? You're so full of shit hahahahaha

Maybe, maybe not.

What is your legacy? Sure, your parents and kids will remember you, but what about grandkids once you are dead? Great grandkids that never met you?

Don't worry, they will remember you as that asshole that took all those pictures of themself.

Maybe if you took less time worrying about what others are doing with their free time and valuables, you might have done something more worthwhile than judging people who do nothing wrong to you. You useless waste of space hhahahahaha

Random assumptions are always fun, but I am comfortable with the contributions I have made so far in my life.

I am curious about the waste of space comment. That is a pretty big assumption to make with out knowing anything about me. How did you come to it?

... says the person who just called a guy

You useless waste of space.

maybe check your brain for, well, any sign of activity

Also, who says you can't have a legacy AND take selfies throughout your life? Who says you can't have a legacy that involves selfies? You ignorant fuck

I just explained a legacy involving selfies.

I never said you could not have a legacy independent of selfies. I still stand by the statement though that any one that runs around taking pictures of themselves is self absorbed and narcissistic like. Check out those articles that one dude posted or just Google it.

Pretty much everyone but people obsessed with selfies realize how narcissistic they are.

That part really stung so it's nice to hear you refute that point

Ok it is narcissistic. Why do you care though? No one is making you look at pictures. People masturbating in front of a mirror is narcissistic too but that doesn't bother me one bit either. I don't give a fuck. It's so neckbeardy when you guys whine about duck face, and seflies, and anything popular. Calm down.

If you are cool with being considered narcissistic and and borderline psychopathic by the mental health community, fine by me, but don't delude yourself into thinking it is normal or healthy.

TIL Taking selfies = borderline psychopathic

Only according to psychological experts, but what do they know, right?

Source pls

For starters, Google "are selfies narcissistic" but this dude did a pretty good job summing up google.

https://www.reddit.com/comments/31fv9a/slug/cq1f286

Full disclosure, I did not Google it and realize that everyone else outside of reddit with a degree in psychology thought selfies were narcissistic until battle pope said they did, so credit goes to them on the sources.

And that's why you hate selfies so much? Because people score higher on narcisict and aspd studies than people who don't?

No, I choose to dislike them because for the most part, they add nothing. To anything.

It is fairly irrational, if not downright nonsensical, but for some reason the fact that people think that pictures they take are suddenly worthwhile or more valuable simply because they are in them is offensive to me.

That does not even take into account the countless selfies that are just of a person in their bathroom, or a restaurant, or a car, or another bathroom, or a cab, etc. Those are good for two things. Dating profiles, or trying to show the rest of the world thay you are as attractive as you think you are.

Seems pretty narcissistic and self obsessed to me.
