Where the fuck is Bielefeld?

Bielefeld is one of the biggest conspiracies in Germany. There are people who claim to live in that place, hell, even a soccer team claims to be from there, but there isn't much evidence to prove that Bielefeld exists.

Back in '99 there was an article published about Bielefeld stating that it did indeed exist. Unfortunately, they published the article on April Fools Day so it just ended up causing more controversy.

My father once said "if you're going to a unique place, and not getting a picture of yourself there, just go buy a post card"

I also remember a story I read on Reddit about an old woman in her deathbed and how the family found a old video tape if when she was young and visited Grand Canyon with her than alive husband. The whole family gathered to watch it. And they didn't appear in the video for even a second. And then she said something like "I don't even give a shit about grand canyon!"

But yeah, fuck selfies, ask someone to take a picture of you.

Edit: selfie is still better than no pictures of you being at a cool place you don't get to go every day (or especially if it's a once in a life time thing)

Edit 2 / LPT: when asking someone to take a picture - make sure you can outrun them

Edit 3: my main thing against selfies - is that you usually can't get enough of the surroundings, since you're so close to the camera. Maybe I should invest into a selfies stick

I took a trip to Europe a few years ago and took something around 4,000 pictures. The only ones I'm in are me lying on the ground to my the Eiffel Tower look like my dick and a graffitied van that was tagged with the single word "fuck".

The only reason I wish I had taken more pics of me being there is that I have no tangible proof of having taken the trip.

The only reason I wish I had taken more pics of me being there is that I have no tangible proof of having taken the trip.

I think this is kind of a problem that is inherent with people who are so obsessed with selfies. It's not enough that you were there, but you have some need to prove to people who couldn't give a shit that you were. As if people who care about you are going to assume you're lying unless there is photographic evidence (outside of perhaps achieving some great feat, like losing 200 pounds and climbing Everest).

Taking a picture of yourself is not a problem to me. The overly obsessed nature of taking them fucking everywhere is the problem I have personally with this "selfie craze." Even more so calling everything a selfie.

Take a picture of yourself there. But take more pictures without you in them. After 30 years, it's going to be depressing to see how skinny and young you were having that sort of fun. :-)

But people who you show the pictures will be much more intrasted on the pictures where you are. The eiffel tower will most likely still be there and look exactly the same. Hell there are better pictures of Eiffel tower or any famous location you could show.

What's wrong with taking them? you didn't really explain your position. It bothers you because you personally prefer pictures that you're not in? I don't think the commenter you replied to was worried their friends would think they're lying, just that when they look at their pictures, they don't see themselves as having been there, just some landscape photographs.

Yes, in fact, lots of people do this, it's a running joke in my family about how many times I get asked to take photos for complete strangers when I'm in a touristy area. I've asked plenty of others to do it for me too. Never had a camera taken. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it certainly isn't common.

You're willing to go to unknown places and give your valuables to people you don't know and won't worry about it?

Uh yeah, it's called asking for a picture. I've done it dozens of times in my life and have never had anything stolen, nor worried about it happening. Guess I'm just not as paranoid as some people. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i love how now the big thing to hate on reddit is selfie sticks. last week there was that entire front page conversation about how narcissistic it was (because some music festival banned them).

Just how insecure are people on reddit if they honestly believe the only reason someone would want a picture of themself and someone they care about is to feed their own narcissism? For how smart this website is most of the time, sometimes we just form incredibly stupid opinions about incredibly pointless things.

People get on stupid bandwagons and keep riding them without analyzing why they hold the opinion to begin with. A selfie stick is fine, it solves a problem a lot of folks have. I don't want to take a picture for a damn tourist, or some bunch of giggling women in restaurant. I also see how lugging around a tripod would be annoying. A simple wand to hold the camera a bit away accomplishes all the right tasks with minimum amount of fuss.

I have suspect a lot of these "x things r so dum guise lolol they look stupid." morons are jealous that they are unable to do the things they want to do without feeling judged.

We could all do a lot better by giving less shits about how we appear to others, and give more shits about how we behave towards on another.

I agree, and a lot of people suck at taking pictures. I'm currently looking for a good selfie stick.

This exact same thing happened to me regarding an older family member looking at her scrapbooks. She had a bunch of pictures of Hawaii when she visited her husband there. Nothing but the pictures containing her actual family mattered.

My friends grandmother passed away recently and I've been helping her go through all of her grandmother's old photos. We've thrown entire albums in the trash because they were just photos of stupid stuff she saw on vacation, without any people in the pictures. They probably meant something to the grandmother, but to us they're meaningless and just taking up space.

As an opposing view -- I went to Hawaii on my honeymoon with my first wife. She's an ass, and it was a huge mistake to marry her in the first place. So last year, I found our old photo album of our trip to Hawaii. I tore up and threw away all the photos that had her in it - which usually were photos that also had me in them. I kept some of the shots of landscape, etc., though... Because those are the only photos that now matter to me.

I'm not against selfies per se however:

I don't want to take one with you every 5 seconds, I want to walk around and have a good time.

Take selfies of yourself in front of interesting things. I don't give a shit about your bathroom.

Try to at least be a little artistic about it.

I agree. I went to Europe with my brother about 10 years ago and he wouldn't let me take a picture of him in front of the cool places we were going. He was like "I know I was here, just take a picture of it" I told he was a dick and to just go buy a postcard then took pictures of myself in front of them selfie style and so now I have a ton of pictures of a giant face with parts of monuments.

I'm with your brother on this one.

Edit: Ok, I'll elaborate, maybe we can understand each other better. When I go somewhere interesting, I don't need to look at my own face to remember being there, I look at a photo of wherever it was. I don't understand the value of having another picture of myself. Do you like having pictures of yourselves to show other people, or to put on Facebook or something? I feel like I'm missing the point.

Here's the thing though: there are a million people who are better photographers than me and have better cameras than I do. What's the point of taking a picture with my own camera when I can just look one up on the Internet? I have no memory attached to the photo unless there is something personal in it.

Edit: Unless I'm misunderstanding you and you're just contemplating the point of taking photos in general?

No, I'm a big photo taker. You can buy postcards or look up photos, but if there's something specific you want to remember, you have to take the photo yourself. And that's what I get out of travel personally, there are attractions and monuments which are nice but I don't just go to see those. I guess taking photos of what I saw is more memorable to me personally, I have no personal connection to seeing my own self in the photo.

You can go on Wikipedia to find a picture of whatever monument you're taking a picture of. If you are going on a trip, take pictures of you having fun at these monuments. Those will be better memories later, and those you can't find with a google search.

I said to the other guy, I'm not really talking about monuments. I'm not interested in taking the billionth photo of Mt. Rushmore or whatever. I'm saying if I'm traveling and I see some mountain vista or interesting street, I'd rather have a picture of that so I could remember what I saw, rather than remembering that I saw it.

In situations like that, the best thing might be to capture a few pics in less obvious ways or fast snaps. I'm a little like your brother, I don't feel a need for cameras "every second of every moment" of an otherwise great trip. But in holding to that mentality, they often forget that few pics of remembrance may mean a lot to others (and perhaps themselves).

And on that note, my sisters/brothers have captured a few great pics me or us by "accident" and some of those are my favorite pics for their spontaneity and chance. No harm in a few pics. But once you got them, put the camera away and enjoy their company (that's the balance so many people miss).

I agree. This was before everyone had camera phones so it wasn't such a big deal. I prefer candid shots to posed shots as well.

But sometimes a selfie is your only option.

And it's always the best option
Fuck the people that hate them, why go around bothering others to take your pictures? Unless there's a staff member like a waiter willing to take the pic, why go around bothering other people because you have a problem with stretching your arm to take a picture.

because you can get a better picture, thats the reason. it doesnt take 10 seconds to ask someone to take a photo for you, and it's not as if you give people cancer when you pass them your camera, so dont be so shy.

I work at a place where there's lots of cool shit to see/do. I have no problem taking people's pictures when they ask. I actually like it. I just imagine I'm a pro in my head and try to get baller ass shots

Agreed on the hate has gone too far, but I will ask a bystander if they look nice. I've been asked before and am always willing to help out. I would rather have a good picture than a selfie but I don't hate on selfies.

if you can take a selfie, you have a working camera, and therefore can take a normal photo

What if no one is around to take the photo for you? Being in the picture is part of the reason for pictures.

I don't get the groundswell of negative bullshit surrounding selfies. I can't think of dumber thing to waste energy hating on.

"ZOMG SO VAIN!!! Just take pictures of the thing you're highlighting by itself!!!"

Uh, why? Why the fuck would I want to see shitty pictures taken with a shitty camera of monuments and landmarks that I could just easily google much better quality shots of? At least if my friends and family are in the picture, then I get to have a personal attachment to it and say, "Nice, that's awesome that they got to do that cool thing or see that cool place." That is the whole point.

It really make convinced that the mass of bozos on the internet ranting about "selfies" are nothing more than a bunch of bitter, misanthropic basement-dwelling retards who think that everyone else in the world only goes to the trouble of having fun experiences for the sole purpose of making them feel worse about their pathetic, sad little lives.

I think part of the problem is that in a selfie, the fact usually takes up a majority of the frame. I.e., I think a 'selfie' is something somewhat different from "a picture of me in some place."

With selfie stick you can take a picture from far away.

the rage against selfies is almost always against women taking photos of themselves and I'm reminded of this quote by John Berger

"You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose beauty you had depicted for you own pleasure.”

it's fine to look at a million girls, but when she starts taking photos herself, she's a vain bitch. What? Who cares? Who is being cheapened?

I think people hate the term selfie, and selfie's that are take in utterly stupid places like the bathroom. Go somewhere interesting, and take pictures of interesting things. Sure have yourself in the photo but do we need to call that a selfie?

I always love too when people call a group shot a selfie, or a photo taken by another person a selfie. Or my favorite, a photo that isn't of a person at all and someone seriously calling it a selfie (as opposed to OP's photo where he's joking around)

My picture of the monument alone wouldn't be as good as a simple google search could yield me, and without us in the pic who even cares?

The "landmark selfie" at least carries a memory with it.

Go back through some of your old pictures and you'll probably skip right over some of the landscape shots for a picture with someone in it.

Heh... Okay, starting to feel like maybe I'm one of the very few that loves looking back over landscape/city/surrounding photos that I've taken on vacation or whatever!? That's what I own a camera to take pictures of, so that's part of the enjoyment in having them, y'know!? Oh well, the cheese stands alone.

dw, i also prefer photos that dont have speceific people as their subject :)

I feel like this applies only if you're a decent photographer with a nice camera. Otherwise, landscape shots generally seem really disappointing compared to the real thing.

Shit, i read only the top couple lines then tried to look for a hidden face in the trees.

Weak

r/shitpost

I only read the ninja part and thought that the new photo fad was trying to find the person hidden in the photo. Gave up after a few min and read the rest to realize I'm an idiot

This is funny?

I tried it and it worked. You have my upvote.

Who actually pulled that face anyway?

Nope.

Why does every post have this title?

[–]Krxe 1

Who the fuck arches their eyebrow when they concentrate?

This isn't new, I've been doing it for years!

Are those steps going up or down? I can't figure it out.

This may be off base, but does the ninja face selfie involve turning into a log at any point?

Only if that log is a ninja.

But that's really hard to do with the forward facing camera :/

I found the ninja. It's Hulk Hogan hiding a little to the left of the second post on the right.

Science has proven that selfies are narcissistic, get over it. I mean, how many pictures of your face do you really need on your phone?

Now we'll never know if the ninja turned the camera away from himself or not. Damn ninjas

"Worth a shot". I see what you did there.

But what about me?

I'm most important consideration in anything ever. How can you relate a view or an experience without my head and ridiculous facial expression taking up 95% of the field of view? Huh?!

I looked for five minutes trying to find the person when I realised it was 180 degrees.

biggest face palm ever

So I thought it said ninja fence.. I was looking for a ninja for like 10 min.. wow..

I'm a ninja! I've been doing this for years!

wORTH THE SHOT !

But then if you do this, it's not called a selfie, it's just taking a regular picture

Whoosh...

How? I understand, I'm joking

"Worth a shot." Wonderfully punny way to end the day. Thx!

Who else was looking for a hidden face?

Now if only we could convince people not to end sentences with prepositions.

It is known. Yas. Everything. Just. This.

Pfft, I've been doing this before it was cool.

And they turn there camera horizontal when taking video

Yeah, because when I'm old and grey I'm really gonna think back on my travels and experiences and think "I shouldn't have taken so many pictures of myself"

But how will I satisfy my deep rooted narcissism and desperate need for approval?

How about you write a comment on reddit that appeals to a circle-jerk groupthink.

I read 'ninja face' and became terrified that there was going to be a creepy face hidden within the picture that I would suddenly notice and freak out at. I had to cover the image with my hand to actually finish reading.

So basically the ninja is just a youie.

Got it.

This is why photography class should return to high school. The 'selfie' is what they were trying to protect us from. We didn't listen..

Why is this in /r/funny.

Is this a crosspost from /r/stupid ?

Best ninja selfie I've ever seen!
