It's really not a race issue, although some of the comments here have been racist. But if you ever need an organ donated to you, yes, your life WILL be thoroughly examined by a group of doctors who will determine where you will fall on the very long transplant list. Unfortunately, there are not enough organs to go around, and those doctors on the transplant committee have to determine, LITERALLY, who is going to live and die.

It is a horrible responsibility, because they must utilitarian in their judgments to be "fair." You're eighty years old but in good health? You might be on the list but that organ, and every organ after it is going to go to someone who hasn't lived such a long life. History of noncompliance? You're low on the list. History of depression/suicide? Super low on the list. You live on the streets drinking all day and talking to god? You probably won't even make the list. It's sad, but it's also the most fair system we have, because it's better that transplanted heart or kidney or whatever goes to the diabetic person who takes her medications and watches her blood sugar closely. It's better that it goes to the kid who spends her afternoons playing soccer or whatever, instead of robbing people!

The probability they will get themselves killed thus wasting the organ.

Are you saying that someone who has commuted a crime has less of a right to live than someone who doesn't?

Yes. If you have a 90% probability of jumping off a bridge in the next 10 days and the 5 year old doesn't but they give it to you -- that's a stupid ass move on their part.

That is a gross sentiment and it will result in a racial divide for those who need transplants.

Race only gets brought in because of people like you who would rather ignore all the other data and focus only on race. The person had a history of issues and the doctors had a probable reason to believe he would go on to commit further crimes. News flash: If you commit crimes then you have a higher probability of death. Problem here is what happens is people og "OMG Doctors don't want to help because he's black!" much like how Reddit looks at all police actions.

A thief isn't evil and they don't deserve to die.

Tell that to the other 95 people who were less than 7 years old that the 45 year old serial murderer "deserved" more than then. Go on, go tell them. I'm sure you and their parents will smile knowing that of the five people, you chose that murderer who may have a high probability of getting shot doing what he does best! Those other 95 deserved to die so he could live, according to you.

Now listen, and listen clearly: This world isn't fair and sometimes you have to make the best of what you have. This means good people die (gasp!).

The problem is the doctors KNEW of his history and felt he had a high probability of getting himself killed. They "mysteriously" did a 180 on their decisions, denying someone else that organ, only for this person to have shown they weren't the out-standing citizen you are mentally incapable of denying.

So congrats, you now traded two lives for nothing potentially. I'm sure you'll sleep well knowing you killed two people when you knew one of them was probably going to be wasted on anyways...
