The idea of suffering for something greater than yourself is certainly non-existent in our generation.

Fuck you. Staying in an abusive marriage isn't suffering for something greater than yourself you arrogant prick.

"Just take being terrorized and belittled and thrown against the wall, otherwise you clearly don't know how to commit to something and have no attention span" you're an ass.

I tried to stay in my marriage because I believed my kids' well-being was more important than my happiness.

I left because I believed my misery was poisoning their childhoods. The entire home was toxic because of the issues between my wife and me.

You, and society, can stick its opinions on this up its respective asses.

100% true. My parents should have divorced after 3 years. They 'stuck it out for the kids' and I would lie awake listening to screaming matches all the time. At least there weren't any physical altercations, but one particular fight that I still remember concluded with my mother screaming "I JUST WANTED YOU TO FUCK ME. THAT"S ALL I FUCKING WANTED"

The fact that you are surrounded by toads that reinforce your cynical worldview says more about you than it says about our generation (or people in general).
