Chris Hernandez, a US Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has a powerful, blunt message for all the wimpy, whiny college students out there screaming about “trauma” and “microagression.”
If you read one story all day, this is it.
From The College Fix:
Daily we Americans learn of the latest “trauma” that has sent some group of college students into a tizzy: a microaggression, or grad speaker, or opinion, or phrase, or (insert just about anything here) that prompts these delicate snowflakes to scurry away, call for “safe spaces,” and demand said “offenses” cease and desist.
Sometimes they’re indignant that a controversial concept was broached. Other times they feign outrage and distress to push their ideology on the rest of the campus and their peers. And there are even some who are literally so sheltered and narcissistic that they have no concept of the real world, and think it actually revolves around them. …I came across a piece that precisely conveys my contempt for the politically correct campus sniveling that never seems to cease. Posted on The Federalist, it was written by Chris Hernandez, a Marine veteran and current National Guard soldier who served as a combat veteran in Iraq and Afghanistan and logged more than two decades of military service.
It opens with Hernandez telling the tale of a Marine who crashed in a helicopter during a training exercise, a man who ended up covered in grotesque burn scars and other maladies. This guy had survived, his head in flames, as he crawled over his buddies trapped in the wreckage. The Marine told Hernandez “the day I can’t talk about it is the day it starts to haunt me.”
I’d definitely recommend reading the whole thing here.
Here’s the main part of the Marine’s blunt, powerful message to students, from The Federalist:
I’m no stranger to trauma, and I’ve dealt with it by writing and talking about it. I suppose I’ve always defined “trauma” the traditional way: a terrible experience, usually involving significant loss or mortal danger, which left a lasting scar. However, I’ve recently discovered my definition of trauma is wrong. Trauma now seems to be pretty much anything that bothers anyone, in any way, ever. And the worst “trauma” seems to come not from horrible brushes with death like I described above; instead, they’re the result of racism and discrimination. …
I’ve reviewed these reports of “trauma”, and have reached a conclusion about them. I’m going to make a brief statement summarizing my conclusion. While I mean this in the nicest way possible, I don’t want victims of microaggressions or supporters of trigger warnings to doubt my sincerity.
F*** your trauma.Yes, f*** your trauma. My sympathy for your suffering, whether that suffering was real or imaginary, ended when you demanded I change my life to avoid bringing up your bad memories. You don’t seem to have figured this out, but there is no “I must never be reminded of a negative experience” expectation in any culture anywhere on earth.
If your psyche is so fragile you fall apart when someone inadvertently reminds you of “trauma,” especially if that trauma consisted of you overreacting to a self-interpreted racial slur, you need therapy. You belong on a psychiatrist’s couch, not in college dictating what the rest of society can’t do, say, or think. Get your own head right before you try to run other people’s lives. If you expect everyone around you to cater to your neurosis, forever, you’re what I’d call a “failure at life,” doomed to perpetual disappointment.
Oh, I should add: f** my trauma, too. I must be old-fashioned, but I always thought coming to terms with pain was part of growing up. I’ve never expected anyone to not knock on my door because it reminds me of that terrifying morning decades ago. I’ve never blown up at anyone for startling me with a camera flash (I’ve never even mentioned it to anyone who did). I’ve never expected anyone to not talk about Iraq or Afghanistan around me, even though some memories still hurt. I don’t need trigger warnings because a book might remind me of a murder victim I’ve seen.
The Federalist also reveals that this article was blocked by Facebook on Thursday, March 26. Facebook deemed that it was offensive and prohibited people from sharing it.
The editors have since given the piece a new URL, which seems to have fixed the problem for now. And if Facebook blocks it again, the editors promise to change the URL address again, because they believe people need to read and share this important story.
We couldn’t agree more.

This piece is brilliant in its addressing victimhood as practiced by the next generation.

Hipsters, ..they were raised to whine, and beg for handouts like little puppy dogs, they don’t know any better.
Of course he’s right. Everyone is a victim. The only folks who would disagree are his target.
Thank you sir, and thank you for your protection service. You are a true American
As one that’s part of that generation. I grew up, greived, sought help and healed. Life happens. We need to grow up and focus. College should challenge you to expand by offending you!
Joe Barry you are one of the sorry pieces of shit he is referring too.
How about a photo of a US Marine here?
Nah… stock photo of a Brit will cover it…
Yeah. Wasn’t hard to figure that out. Kinda confused me at first. Former U.S. Army 63E-20
Maybe he’s a Royal Marine?
Ooh Raah! Screw PC and the offended masses!
Why on Earth would they attach a picture of a British soldier to this article? A tiny bit insulting… With no ill will to our British comrades.
Was wondering about that.
My guess is that the publishers went for a stock photo and had no idea that there was a difference… see it happen quite a bit.
Sailors with rifles are cool! They almost get more respect from Soldiers, than just average Sailors…
THIS IS AWESOME. have had it with facebook. they are too controling.
Facebook blocks it. What a surprise.
new catch phrase………SO WHAT??
It’s about mind control by controlling the words people use and therefor what they think. Obviously few Americans would choose a communist dictatorship if it were presented openly, so other methods must be used to achieve this goal.
Love the article! Gonna share this on my page!!
The fastest way to forget about microagression is to experience macro aggression; aka a good old fashion ass whooping. Please feel free to whoop the ass of anyone who uses the phrase micro aggression.
Well said
As he states, this “I’m offended” phenomenon is not truly about protecting feelings…it’s about liberals forcing their will, in thought and deed, on everybody else.
This story needs to be read and shared by every single college student in America and the world! Grow up and handle trauma! Stop whining, bitching and moaning about your trauma and realize that you must help repair yourself and FACE your trauma! You can overcome if you put forth the WORK necessary to do so and show your STRENGTH!
Thanks Marine! “Tell it like it is”
I guess this offends facebook .
You get old enough and wake up with physical pain in morning you come to realize one thing it lets you know you are still alive, and that is a good thing. So as this Marine I do not know says ” F–K Your Trauma”! Put your big boy pants and grow up. The world doesn’t owe you anything; it was here first.
Picture is of British Soldier
Great, but why a pic of a British servicemen?
Raquel Ellis
Is that a uk helmet?
GET OVER YOURSELVES, YOU AREN’T SO FRIGGIN MUCH.
Ryan Tipton I am so proud of you. Sempre fi
I have a hard time with the fact a cover photo is a British uniform, not US. Marine. …. Hipe and more Hipe!… Suck it in… Breath deep..that’s it…10, 9, 8, …5, 4, 3,… Really? I’d think a US. “Marine” would have the balls to put their own face on an article… But they are a marine and not a Soldier, “titles” are for the gullible. l…I’m even doubting “right wing” media now. Say what you mean, mean what you say. Put your face on it!
I couldn’t agree more. This imagined trauma tells me they are manipulating what is the current flow of what i call “poor me” syndrome. You don’t know what trauma is until you’ve faced death, or equally horrible event in your life. Grow up and stop being wimps, or maybe take them into a morgue and show them murder victims, or a hospital to see the victim of serious burns, or serious accident. Unless you are personally affected, hearing a story of trauma should affect you only because you feel empathy for the victims, but not so much you have to curl up in a fetal position.
Great job marine
SEMPER FI ooohra !
I’m an “old guy.” I suppose I was raised in a sheltered/protected environment. My upbringing led me to this understanding. To “offend or cause another to be offended” meant that you had said or done something to cause another person to fall from or totally abandon their faith. The one who inspired this writing made it very clear that there were severe consequences for the one who caused that kind of “offense.”
Today words and language are being twisted by many to achieve –
1. a narrow partisan point of view
2. to marginalize anyone who doesn’t agree with them
3. to demean those who dare to disagree
4. to “label” those with opposing views
5. to make “pronouncements” about the intent of others without ever having a discussion or knowing anything about “the others”
6. they “define” the situation to justify their point of view/agenda
In fact this situation has become so distorted that if I quote the words of Jesus, or stand for the principles He stood for, I’m labeled a “hater.” It was all foretold!
Hope all those ignorant victims are prepared to pay the cost!
THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS PUT UP A U S SOLDIER PICTURE
Love this article! It’s about time someone put things into perspective for this generation of whiners!
the guy nails it—–THANK YOU FOR YOUR MESSAGE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!
Our college kids are being ill served by elitist, ideologue professors. They are spoiled pampered young people without a clue. They cannot name their country’s leaders but know all about Beyoncé and the Kardashians. If someone is to speak on their campus that may make them think, they take to the streets and protest. They live partly in a mob rule mentality and partly in a super sensitive, easily offended state of mind.

Why would this story be blocked? It’s life…get over it and grow up. PC is destroying this country. Being a psychiatrist must be a lucrative business these days. My father is a 92 year old WWII POW for sixteen months! He never spoke of his abuses until 9/11. Talk about trauma…in a German prison camp! College students these days were coddled and given whatever by their parents. Those parents raised a generation of the PC culture. This country will never see a greatest generation in this world’s endurance. My point… this Marine is from a generation that may well be never seen again because of the offended masses of PC Pussy’s! By the way, thank you for your service sir.

Ours has become a society looking for a reason to be offended.

God bless you and God bless America!
God bless you and God bless America!
I spent 27 years in the Corps. Our response to the kind of petty bs described here was, “Get over it!!” Still seems applicable.
Especially the colleges and their students against the American flag.
they wouldn’t listen anyway.
That picture is a Brit, not a Marine!
Thanks for sharing. Great article.
Semper Fi warrior
Finally some one who is willing to speak out ! this is already shared in my FB
Double like!!!!
God bless that Marine, and all his brothers & sisters in arms.
It makes absolutely no difference what age group you want to talk about, what political ideology you may support, if you were or were not in the military, or what religious group you belong to. People in general whine and moan. People inflate their personal opinions and beliefs to the point that they become offended at any hint of disagreement. They just do. People also exaggerate and flat out lie when the lie is intended to outrage or scare like-minded people. Want some quick examples? Here’s two…1)Fox News’ annual “War on Christmas” emotional melt-down…when saying “Happy Holidays” somehow becomes a hate crime against Christians. 2)The never-ending, day after day torrent of hysterical rants about how gay marriage will result in everything bad ever imagined..from the destruction of marriage in general, to the actual end of the world brought on by an angry and vengeful god. Everyone has “traumas” (real or otherwise) and every sub-set of American society has members who think their group is being victimized.
