I think this is an opportunity to build a much better, friendlier, and more open community.

I think everyone needs some time to process what's happened over the past few hours. I know some of us haven't slept yet, and the sun will be coming up soon...so good morning/good night :)

Even if I don't return as a mod, don't worry I'll still be here :)

I just want to thank you for the way you've handled this whole thing with maturity and tact. That's not easy to do. I love this sub and am really glad that you're taking the reins, and I think that things will get better from here on out.

Thank you for your support. <3

I know sometimes people post the same questions over and over again on this sub, but I still think one of the things we should do as a community is to still help and not just say look at the FAQ. sometimes that makes a big difference because skin problems are something that we need support and encouragement from others. helps people not feel like they are fighting alone. so yeah, I hope this site focuses on friendliness. It already has great info and a lot of readers, it just needs more grassroots volunteering help.

Thanks for handling everything so well. It is definitely much appreciated.

I think the #1 thing I would love to see is more transparency. So things like:

  • if mod team is tying up with a brand for promotions, it should be made clear to everyone, including what the promotion entails and how long it lasts, and what the mod team benefits from it.

  • if mod team is receiving any commissions for purchases through affiliate links or coupon codes, this should be clear too.

  • if mod team is making any money off third party websites that are not part of reddit, this should be made clear too

  • if mod team is given product samples to review and post about on the subreddit, this should be made clear too.

When I say made clear, I'm thinking of the post title being something like "[Affliate link] PSA Paulas Choice has a 30% off code til end of the month", with a comment saying exactly how the mod team benefits (eg. Affliate link generates commissions that are paid to XYZ user). That's what I would like to see! :)

On another note, what do you guys plan to do with the website? Did it belong to ieatbugs and is her website, or do you guys also own it?

I think there should be some kind of a provision regarding blogging and especially mods who are also bloggers.

I agree. This will absolutely be addressed in the upcoming post.

The website is entirely ieatbugs. I have no control over what happens (or doesn't happen) there.

And I completely agree with your comment about transparency. I'm extremely transparent about any affiliate links on my own blog. It's honest and fair, but more importantly, it's the law. People need to know that they're clicking affiliate links and deception is not going to be tolerated here.

I'm excited! I do not have a lot of suggestions, but something that has been kind of annoying me is that the Routine Help thread seems to be stickied every day? I'm not sure how helpful that thread even is, but personally I liked it better before, when stupid questions and the other daily topics got stickied as well. And I hope the sidebar links will link to their original pages again. I really liked it the way it used to be!

I do too! I definitely think I'm going to change the way that thread is. :) Thank you for your input.

I've resubscribed and I'm excited to see this sub become the best version of itself.

I think for now all links to the website should be removed. We should then all work on rebuilding the wiki, because while the old stuff was good we've all grown in knowledge and I'm sure we can improve on what was written.

I know we're smaller, but /r/SkincareAddictionUK has a really robust ingredient wiki thanks to the efforts of /u/Firefox7275.

Hopefully we can work together moving forward. Even though we are in the sidebar the former mods had absolutely no interest in working with us. Even though publicly they claimed they were working hard to get more non US voices heard.

To be honest I'm not completely sure if only removing 2 mods is enough? I mean, every new mod was chosen by /u/ieatbugs and probably approved of her website and business plans? Even if the other mods aren't the main culprits, it leaves a sour taste imo.

They are probably all in on it as other ex mod comments have suggested and think outing the top dog will clear it all up. I honestly wouldn't trust anything on this sub going forward.
