Stick with his religion and he would have been labelled a sinner. Leave it and be deemed an apostate. The alternative is to completely deny who he is as a person, not being able to enjoy the common human experience.

The fact that you can't empathize with his situation is disappointing. Whatever happened to basic human decency?

Basic human decency is a post-religious concept... Hell given most origin stories, basic human decency is anti-religion.

There's time and place for a debate like that. This aint it.

While i agree with you and wish it made more sense to these people, your comment is extremely insensitive concerning the topic at hand.

Insensitive to whom? To the guy who died? I believe he was pretty desensitized to such minor stuff by the time he killed himself. Insensitive to Muslims here? No it's not.

Just today, I was in a thread where Muslims on this subreddit were coaxing a non-Muslim to leave his Muslim girlfriend 'if he really loves her.' These people too lack the simple human decency of not judging anyone they don't know. Is it human decency to tell someone to leave his lover because of religion? Not in most of the educated world, but I got downvoted to oblivion.

It's only a matter of time before any non-muslim killed in the process of loving his muslim girlfriend will be justified as 'he brought it on to himself.' The lack of mutual respect for another views and empathy is the cause for loss of simple human decency. This subreddit has some really filthy people, mate.

    Dude that's kind harsh no?

Be careful WinterVein, you and I might be tested one day with something we really want badly to the point shaytan convinces us killing the ourselves is good idea.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but it's possible, so don't be so sure we're better. God knows in what state we'll be in when our time to die comes....

Is shaytan the Muslim version of the Christian satan or something different?

    FYI to you and /u/DEUTSCHELAND_FOREVER

Shaytan refers to jinn, real name "Iblees". In Christianity, satan is a fallen angel iirc, in islam, he was never an angel. He was just a jinn, and incidentally, he's commonly and poetically referred to as "the first racist" (this is the sin that caused him to reject Adam, and he's been fighting man ever since). Theologically speaking of course.

    Thanks for the information! :)

So is a jinn like a demon or something? Thanks again for your help!

"Jinn" is just a form of creation that is unseen. We don't know what they are, they could be supernatural or some kind of naturalistic hominids of one of the clades that preceded homo sapiens.

Are they thought to be evil? Or is it simply an unseen force like you mentioned--good, evil, or otherwise? I may be digging into this too much :P

Are they thought to be evil?

    No.

Or is it simply an unseen force like you mentioned--good, evil, or otherwise?

    Yep.

The word "jinn" covers an entire class of creation, not just a single type. Even aliens, if they were to exist, would be classified as such. It's basically non-human sentient creation.

Gotcha, thanks again for your help, have a nice day! :)

Muslims believe jinn are a part of God's creation, separate from man or angels.

They share similar qualities to man (but not angels). For example, they have intellect, freedom of choice (free will), can discern between right & wrong, etc.

The jinn are created with free will, they are are invisible to human eyes in their normal state.

It's the Arabic transliteration of the Christian "satan"

Was the guy in the article an Ahmadi? I'm confused why you mentioned Ahmadiyyism.

I was taking about Ahmadiyyism elsewhere. I think I responded to the wrong comment :/

Non-muslim here. I've heard of halal (allowed I think?) and haram (I know that's bad) but I haven't heard of fitnah. What does that mean?

      Fitnah means "tribulations/trials/trouble" basically.

      Ah, ok, thanks! :)

Fitnah means temptation, but I used the word instead of haram in some places accidentally

      but the dumbass didn't listen.

      Swearing is haram.

Sorry I need to swear less often

Ya sure got your priorities right.

you don't know my priorities so don't tell me about my priorities. I have a personal struggle with swearing and it's none of your business.
