Corezone Heart-Shaped Secret Vessel - Design Milk - (Navigation privée)

In order to release your emotion you must — well — break your heart. It’s kind of like a hiding place for secrets, or like the designers Agnieszka Mazur and Dorota Skalska say: “An attempt to fulfill emotional needs by the means of an object, a try to withhold immaterial being in a material space.” The concept of Corezone was originally developed by Dorota during a semester project at school at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

It emerged while she was trying to answer the question if emotional needs could be fulfilled by the means of an object. ArtEd - Ceramics. Casting Call: An Introduction to Slip Casting Ceramics with Multi-Piece Molds

Ceramic decals can be applied to any glazed object, but it makes life easier if the ceramic form has smooth surfaces to avoid the problem of trapped air creating bubbles and holes in the image. The ceramic form shown here is a slip-cast jug that I designed as part of a college tableware design project. With a little modification to the original jug design, I made new plaster molds, one for the handle (figure 1) and the other for the body of the form. Ceramic art. En travaillant. Art Mind - Modish. At the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Art conference in 2006, Ian Anderson mentioned to me that he had spoken with Ed Weiner at Maryland China about the possibility of self-financed mass production. I had always imagined selling or leasing my designs to someone else, but I quickly came around to the idea of paying for the venture myself.

I spoke with Ed and, before long, I had paid $500 to have a prototype of my coffee cup produced. NEKO FOR ARTA CERAMIC / Neko ™ Lisa Firer » floral vessels. Céramique comtemporaine. By parodying sumptuous upholstery and rich textured fabrics which even when old and sagging suggest comfort and luxury, I use porcelain to make functional vessels for the home such as jugs and vases.

Hot from the kiln - Sarah Grove

By pressing slabs of porcelain into plaster casts of textiles, from which I can hand build my pieces from, I make porcelain mimic deeply stuffed upholstered padding, buttoned silk, waffle and even mock ostrich. These are clean, simple and white but to let every detail show, mother-of-pearl lustre makes the details of upholstery tacks, buttons and braiding stand out. There is a contrast between the soft pillow forms of the fabric and the cold unyielding nature of the porcelain. Simplicity of form balances the rich surfaces and is enhanced by the whiteness and translucency of the clay and by using only transparent glaze. The imprints of my fingers are left on the interiors of the pots to affirm the presence of the maker in each piece.

Applying Colored Slips to a Plaster Mold Before Slipcasting For Surface Pattern.

Click to enlarge Each mold is then subjected to a lengthy and damaging process of repetitive slip layering and knife cutting. Colored porcelain slip is slathered onto the casting face of the mold with a 1-inch brush (3). A fresh X-Acto blade is then used to draw across the surface of the leather-hard clay, often digging deep into plaster (4). The trim easily lifts from the plaster and is tossed in the nearest trash can (5). New colored slip is added, cut, and trimmed (6) and so on until the composition is complete, the mold is cleaned up, assembled (7), and cast in porcelain.

When removed from the mold, the work is relatively beaten up (image 8). Peter Pincus is an artist and instructor living in Penfield, New York. Fleur Schell. Revisiting Ryan Takaba with Mark & Angela Walley. If you’ve been on the site before you may not only remember previous work by filmmakers Mark and Angela Walley but also the craft of Ryan Takaba, an individual that we are revisiting in this short film presented below. The dynamic duo met up with Ryan again to probe a little further into the profile of the creative ceramicist and to see a little more of the creation process that goes into the previously featured “mum’s and water” project.

Having been guests on the site three times previously Mark and Angela’s style of filmmaking combined with their desire to find individuals who strive to follow a unique career path really sits well with us. I felt the concept of Ryan’s previous project was a strong one just reading about it, so it’s nice to be able to hear the passion in his voice and to understand a what makes him tick. My favorite section of the film has to be a quarter of the way through the piece when we get to see Ryan creating the ceramics, casting them into their molds.
