Congrats! Edit: Nevermind. OP is clearly black. Nice job riding the AA train

Don't mind them. Their attitude toward others is, frankly, appalling.

Congratulations. Don't let anyone take the wind out of your sails.

AA= affirmative action. It's the discriminatory practice of giving preference to people based on their race. It's apparently okay if the people you're discriminating against are white.

This topic always devolves into uncivilized arguments. Yes, adcoms do allow in certain minorities with lower average stats than other races. This is a compromise that is seen as beneficial to the profession as a whole because it provides diversity. Some patients feel more comfortable with a physician that speaks their language or is the same skin tone as them, this may be unfair but it is a truth adcoms cannot change. What they can change is the number of minority students who might graduate and go on to work in those underserved areas with a group of people who feel more at ease with a physician of their own race. Not a pretty or clean cut topic, but it is the truth and no reason to turn your hate on other applicants.

I dont agree with everyone criticizing this post but just some info asians have it the worst as far as discrimination by affirmative action here is a quote from a news article about Harvard undergrad "The lawsuit cites a 2009 study by Princeton sociologists that concluded that while the average Asian American applicant needed a much higher 1460 SAT score to be admitted, a white student with similar GPA and other qualifications only needed a score of 1320, while blacks needed 1010 and Hispanics 1190."

So it seems. I wasn't aware that Asians are so disproportionately affected by AA.

It definitely does. Just for clarification: not just East Asian, but South and Southeast Asian as well.

They are not. We just don't need that many Asian doctors in the United States. If you want this to change, tell patients to stop being racist - that's the need adcoms are filling.

[–]deadpear 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

LOL. No, that's not even close to what is going on. It's called filling needs. Anyone who gets over a 22 MCAT and can get a 3.0 in undergrad is smart enough to pass med school with more focus. The difference is, white doctors don't serve black neighborhoods...so they get black doctors to fill them. There is no preference given to race because you are only ever competing against people in your same demographic.
