Is this a reference to transgender people? If so that's rather ignorant.

I understand where you're coming from, and on the surface it probably looks that way, but there are genuinely people who do identify as all kinds of random shit, like fictional characters, inanimate objects and non-human animals.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that there really is someone out there who genuinely believes they're a vertibird in human form.

I'm sure there is someone (and I could not care less if they did), but "cisgender' is a very specific term I don't generally see associated with otherkin, which is why I asked.

Its a facetious use of the term which has nothing to do with the actual word. You must have seen it used in this context before? Its used because the actual term cis, while a real term, has become associated with excessive SJW-ing and so is generally used in any post mocking SJWs.

I can't believe there are people who say the things you just said and take themselves seriously.

What a totally non-pretentious, helpful and explanatory way to respond to a post attempting to clarify a situation.

Sorry, but I really can't. I understand that reddit has become a place where being intolerant is practically an identity like being transgender. Why else would anyone rail against people by calling them "social justice warriors." I can't even believe anyone is trying to use that as an insult. Yes, being in favor of social justice is so bad!

The problem is not that I don't understand the clumsy and ignorant way this post is attempting to use this word. I get perfectly well that they're trying to insult people whose identities they find ridiculous. I find it to be unfunny, and clearly written by someone who is short on empathy and long on arrogance - to the point where they expect everyone else to adjust their interpretation of words to suit their petty, infantile sense of humor.

Dunno what the fuck the second half has to do with me; I didn't write it, I was just explaining why he'd use the term cis when not discussing transgender individuals.

Furthermore, you're way off the mark when it comes to what we mean by SJWs. The term has two meanings, again, like cis, used by two different communities. In many places, the term is used to describe those who stand up for liberalism and freedom, while against opression and discrimination. This is a great thing, very few rational people, even on your oh-so-hated Reddit, are actually for the opression of established minorities like ethnic groups, LGBT people and religious minorities. Outside of communities like tumblr, these groups are not called SJWs.

SJW, when used in the context I used it in, therefore refers to a seperate subset of the same movement. It refers to people who take the movement to ridiculous extremes, actively discriminating against majority groups merely for being in the majority. Furthermore, these groups oppose things like free speech and advance frankly ridiculous minority groups which serve only to make serious and opressed groups like transgender peoples look stupid, such as people who identify as objects or animals. As you can expect, most people see this as racist, discriminatory and downright ridiculous. Thus, communities like reddit have turned the term SJW into a derisive expression used to mock these extremist elements of the more general, and widely supported, anti-discrimination movements.

I hope this clears things up!

Who really cares. We spend so much time in role playing games wearing other-people-suits that even though it isn't directly analogous, it kinda makes us look like big fat hypocrites.

The difference is, I know I'm a person playing a game. I don't actually FEEL like I'm say, an angel. I actually saw someone on Tumblr ranting about no one knows what it feels like to feel your wings spread, but not being able to fly. How horrible it is to be trapped in a human body. They go day to day actually thinking they're a real angel (or whatever bullshit). It's a borderline mental illness. There's a big fat line between role-playing and psychosis.

[–]nein_dankeChosen, weed my fucking garden.

Is making fun of mental illness something you want to defend? How many gamers use games to help them escape from anxiety and depression? Look, I know they're a little weird, but they're really not hurting anybody. Merciless mocking doesn't make sense.

Except it's not real mental illness. That was a poor way to illustrate it. It just feeds back into special snowflake status. They're pretending they have this real travesty, or that their life is so hard because they're some other species trapped in human form, because they don't actually have anything to feel woeful about.

It damages people who have real problems by trivialising What it means to have an identity crisis or an actual mental illness. It's one thing to be weird, it's different to spread toxic ideals and try to shove them down other peoples' throats.

[–]nein_dankeChosen, weed my fucking garden.

How would you know this?

I've had major depression for half of my life, and I don't feel trivialized by someone who wants to believe they're an angel.

Stop being a dick and go play a game.

It's human behavior. It's also easy to tell since there's such a massive community all doing the same thing.

I've had major depression for my whole life (I win!) and I don't give a shit either. Just wanted to point out why it might not be the healthiest thing to defend people working themselves into a frenzy over things that don't exist. It doesn't matter what it is, pretending to be a cat or playing games, it's not healthy.

Get your dick out of your hand.

[–]nein_dankeChosen, weed my fucking garden.

I've never been accused of engaging in unhealthy behavior for arguing in favor of tolerance. I suppose abusing and insulting them is preferable. Or is that your way of suggesting that I'm no better than you are, it's really all the same, so I should just shut up.

You're all over the place but what it comes down to is that you want to be an ass.

Yeah, you know. It's hard to make a good argument when I don't have any convictions.

I guess the only real point I have is that making a joke about them isn't really abuse. It's making fun of a joke of a "condition". If that makes sense (probably not).

Also, thank you for calling me by my preferred pronoun. I happen to be an ass-kin.

Ugh, you make a good point.

You know, if you think about it, the Last Dragonborn is totally an otherkin. ;)

Really disappointing to see people down-vote you for being a "SJW". I get where people are coming from maybe poking a bit of fun at the inherent ridiculousness of otherkin, but "cisgender bastards"? That just brings a whole bunch of weird shit to this post.

People don't seem to get that you don't automatically stop ever coming across as transphobic the second you quietly agree to yourself "I support transgender people".

[–]nein_dankeChosen, weed my fucking garden.

I wish you weren't being downvoted. Given the actual words in the topic -- because words do mean things -- your question is not only valid, but sadly on point. My hope is that OP and others didn't understand the implication of his phrasing, because it's pretty shitty.

As far as I am concerned, everybody is welcome in the Fallout fanclub, and that most certainly includes people who are trans*.

And seriously, after all the shit gaming and gamers got for D&D, and for Columbine, and for whatever else, are we really going to turn around and be the same kinds of assholes?

Apparently so.

It's funny how gamers post comments like these and then get so shocked when stories about rampant bigotry and misogyny gain traction in the media.

And lo, a wild SJW appears. It's a joke. This isn't mocking transgender people, but people who take legitimacy away from them by identifying as otherkin, transracial, etc.

Hey, s/he asked a legitimate question. I dunno it its meant to be some sort of non-fallout injoke, but that was my reaction too. I've never heard of whatever otherkin is, and it does look pretty transphobic on first viewing. Why not just explain the joke to us poor bastards instead of downvotes?

Oh I get the joke. That doesn't mean it's not ignorant. As far as I'm aware "cisgender" has less to do with otherkin, who claim to be another species.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_PATHOLOGY 6 ポイント7 ポイント  (0子コメント)

You're right, 'cisgender' is merely the opposite of transgender. It doesn't really have anything to do with otherkin.

I am also fairly active on Tumblr, and I have absolutely seen them use language such as "cis scum". It tends to be these otherkin, transracial, etc that use it rather than those that are transgender.

I dunno, the copy pasta itself is subtle and not that extreme. People identify as weird shit on tumblr. I have a transgender buddy who thinks the copy pasta is hilarious.
