It wasn't very "rich in history" when it was blown up demolished.

During World War II, the Stadtschloss was twice struck by Allied bombs: on 3 February and 24 February 1945. On the latter occasion, when the air defence and fire-fighting systems of Berlin had largely been destroyed, the building was struck by incendiaries, lost its roof and was largely burnt out

Just a bit below it says

The end of the war saw the Stadtschloss largely a burned out shell of its former glory, although the building had remained structurally sound and much of its interior decorations still preserved. It could have been restored, as many other bombed-out buildings in central Berlin later were.

And above it says:

Heavily damaged by Allied bombing in World War II, although possible to repair at great expense, the palace was demolished in 1950 by the German Democratic Republic authorities, despite West German protests.

We can go around in a circle jerk all day long, but at the end of the day, it comes down to $$. It wasn't worth putting all the $$ into it just to rebuild four walls and a roof. Because at that point, it becomes an expensive 1950's building, not a historical 1400's palace.

Considering it's interior decorations was conserved, the main structure was conserved, it wouldn't be a 1950's building but merely a renovation.

It's about priorities. DDR wasn't interested in putting money in and preserving this very important part in the Berliner and German heritage. Instead DDR decided to spend the money that could go towards preserving the heritage into building a modernist parliament build on its palace just a few years afterwards which most likely cost a lot more than preserving would.

It's about priorities.

You said it yourself.

Isn't that how you decide to spend your time/money?

They don't put priority in German history and heritage but instead blow it up and spent a lot more money on building a boring modernist parliament building.

And I don't blame them.

They spent their money on something they needed. Whether or not you think it's boring is irrelevant. They needed a modern building to sustain their government. Spending money on an old building "just because it has history" would be wasteful.

Note: This is my last reply in this thread as I can see we will not agree and we'll just end up going in circles all day long.
