間違ったスラングの使い方で大爆笑した件

今回はボビーの奥さんが実際にした、スラングを使おうとして面白い間違え方をしちゃった事例を紹介します。英語に限らず学習とは間違えながら上達するもの。こんな笑い話が出来る位皆さんもどんどんトライしましょう！

Hi guys! I’m Bobby Judo. Today on Listn.me, let’s talk about some VULGAR slang. If you like watching English movies and dramas, listening to English music, and if you have some English speaking friends, you’re going to want to understand different kinds of expressions. Even expressions that are what we call “vulgar” which means, low-class, or dirty.

Understanding them will help you get more out of the conversations you listen to and take part in, and if you’re talking with people who speak a different language, it’s always fun to teach each other your countries’ dirty words… but… sometimes when you try to use them yourself, it doesn’t always work out.

In English, for example, we like to use SIMILES. A lot of times we’ll say something like “His face was as red as a lobster” or “I’m smart like a fox.” You can do this with ANYTHING you want, you can say “cold as ice.” or even ones that are weirder like “right as rain”

Sometimes though, we use phrases like, “That movie was sick as shit”… which sounds really weird, but it actually means “That movie was really cool.”

I have two really good American friends in Japan, and when we talk, we’ll often use “as balls” as a simile. That’s right. Balls. It can be anything! It just means VERY VERY. So if I say “The test was hard as balls” It means the test was really hard. You can say “Man, I’m tired as balls.”

In the summer “HOT AS BALLS.”

In the winter “COLD AS BALLS”

So balls can be hot or cold?

But sometimes, my wife hears the way we talk, and she tries to copy it, but it doesn’t come out exactly right. One day it was really hot, and she said “Today is hot as a ball.”

And that, cracked me up, I laughed really hard, because no one ever says it like that. Balls almost always come in a set of two, so you need to use the plural s.

So she said “Today is hot as a ball,* and I said “No, I think you mean, today is hot as BALLS”

And she said “No. It’s not that hot.”

Another great one, is when we say something is so “good, you’ll shit yourself” or “It’s so good, you’ll wet your pants.” In fact, James Cameron, the director of Avatar, he got a lot of attention for talking about Avatar 2 and 3. He said “the Avatar sequels are going to be so good, you will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.” I don’t know why he added “with your mouth open” but it was a weird thing to say, and people on the internet went crazy about it.

My friend Brett would sometimes say, the food is so good, you’ll wet your pants, and again, one time, my wife tried to copy this. She changed it a little bit though. She said “The food was really good. Period. I wet my pants. Period.”

The meaning is different. That sounds less like a vulgar expression, and more like a real accident.

So be careful when you try to use vulgar slang… Definitely never use them in front of people you don’t know, or people you want to be polite to. Messing up is a great way to learn, and it often makes for some funny stories, but you also never know if someone is going to be offended by those kinds of expressions!

やぁ、みんな！Bobby Judoだよ。今日、Listn.meでは下品なスラングについて話そう。英語の映画やドラマを観るのが好きで、洋楽も好きで、英語を話す友達がいたら、このフレーズの種類と意味を知っておいたほうがいいよ。たとえこの「vulgar」ってフレーズが低所得者層や汚いって思われていても。

理解してることで会話からより引き出せるし、自分も参加して、自分と違う言語を話してる人がいたら、その人達に汚い言葉を教えるのって楽しいよね…でも…たまに使おうとしても、上手くいかないときもあるんだよね。

英語ではね、直喩を使うのが好きなの。よくこのようなことを言うの「彼の顔ロブスター見たいに赤い」か「キツネのように頭いい」これは何に対しても使えるの、「氷みたいに冷たい」って言えるし、もう少し変な言い方をすると「雨みたいに正確」とか。

たまにね、フレーズで「あの映画クッソ良かった」…変な言い方だけど、その意味は「あの映画本当に良かったね」なの。

日本に仲の良いアメリカの友達２人いるのんだけど、よく喋るときに「」金玉みたい」って直喩を使うの。そうだよ。金玉。なんでもいいんだよ！意味は「メチャクチャ」だよ。例えばね「あのテスト金玉見たいに難しかった」意味としてはテストがものすごく難しかった。他にも言えるのが「金玉みたいに疲れた」

夏場では「金玉みたいに熱い」

冬場では「金玉みたいに寒い」

金玉って熱くても寒くもなるの？

でもたまに、僕の奥さんが僕らのしゃべり方を聞いて真似ようとするの。でもちゃんと言えてないんだよね。以前すごく熱い日で彼女が「今日は金玉（ball 単数形）みたいに熱いね」

それで爆笑した、笑い過ぎた、だって誰もそんな言い方しないもん。金玉(balls)は必ずセットでくるから複数形の「ｓ」が必要なの。

で、彼女が「今日は金玉（ball 単数形）」みたいに熱いね」で僕が「今日は金玉 (balls 複数形)みたいに熱いって言いたいんでしょ。」って言ったの

それで彼女が「ううん。(複数形使うほど)そこまで熱くないよ」って。

もう一つ良いのが、たまに何かがとても良かったら「良すぎてうんこ漏らすよ」か「良すぎてパンツ濡らすよ」実際、James Cameron、「アバター」の監督が結構注目されてたのが、アバター２と３の話をしてたとき。彼が「続編は良すぎてみんな口を開けたままうんこ漏らすよ。」何で「口開けたまま」を足したのかは分からないけど、ちょっとおかしな言い方、でもネット上でかなり騒がれた。

僕の友達のBrettはたまに「この御飯美味しすぎてパンツ漏らすよ」って言うの。で、また僕の奥さんがこれを真似ようとしたの。でも彼女ちょっと変えちゃったの。彼女が言ったのは「この御飯とても美味しい。(間を空けて) パンツ漏らした。」

意味が違うよね。これは下品な表現より、本当の事故かと思っちゃうよね。

なので、下品なスラングを使う時は気をつけて…絶対知らない人の前や、礼儀正しくしなくちゃいけない人の前ではやらないで。間違えるのってたくさん学べるし、面白い話になるけど、この手の表現で誰かの気分を損なわせる可能性もあるからね！
