Good lord. This subreddit is not meant to be catered to historians and politics graduates (among the most unfunny people you can think of honestly), it's meant to cater to people who enjoy funny comics.

If the comic has to be accompanied by a small essay in order to be understandable, it's not going to be a funny comic. It's going to be a painfully boring comic, at best interesting to a small handful of history buffs who prefer to learn through crude MS Paint comics rather than books.

Look at the people who are widely considered to have made the best comics in this subreddit, guys like /u/AaronC14, /u/koleye or /u/arrz; they practically never provide any "context" (hell, koleye almost never even comments in his own posts), and yet those comics are the ones that have connected the most with our readers. This is not a coincidence. It is because all you need to do in order to enjoy/understand one of their comics is to read the comic, and nothing else.

And that makes them better comics. It sure as hell makes them funnier comics.

Wow what an areshole.

I didn't say it should cater to historians and political graduates. I said even those people, who are most likely to be familiar with the events referenced in these comics, aren't going to know everything. So how can you expect a layman to know? Practice reading.

Also last time I checked proffesion had nothing to do with sense of humour.

it's not going to be a funny comic.

No it's not going to be funny to you.

Do you realise how arrogant is to tell other people they are wrong and something isn't funny. No, you just don't find it funny. I do and plenty of others judging by the upvotes.

Yes of course the most easily accesible ones are the most popular. Same goes for anything.

That doesn't mean that comics with explanations aren't funny (of course, as you have made clear, you don't like them but plenty of others do). And no matter what you think there is no need to take such that tone with people.

Also obviously a comic being simple isn't the key to greatness. This comic is about as simple as it can get, isn't particually clever and references some of the most famous current events. Yet it still fails to be brilliant, it is just distinctly average. Obviously there is something more to making a great comic than being simple. As this comic is the epitome of simpleness yet still fails to be remarkable.

How come the most rude critics are always the ones who aren't submitters themselves? Such snobbery. It's like that old adage:

Those who can, do

Those who can't do, teach

Those who can't teach, critique

You shit all over the comics made by those guys I listed by dismissing their entire body of work as "the most easily accesible ones", and I'm the asshole? I'm dying to hear what you consider a "brilliant" polandball comic then. Please, provide an example.

Yeah there are plenty of good teachers.

And trying to dismiss critique by saying "you only do that because you are useless" is just an ad homiem argument.

And I wasn't even trying to insult those guys. I'm not saying easily accesible comics are bad, they are great. I'm just disagreeing with your opinion that comics that have a lengthy context post are rubbish. You completely misrepresented what I said, I didn't "dismiss" any of their work.

And to be honest I only insulted your comic specifically because your tone rubbed me up the wrong way. Petty of me, I apologise. However you were being rude befor I even posted. I stand by everything I've said disagreeing with your argument about context posts. And the fact that your tone and dismisall of other's opinions on subjective matters is arrogant.

Are you having a laugh? You start out by calling me an asshole, and then you are complaining about as hominems? That's fucking rich.

I didn't use the insult to justify my point.
