What direction should JusticePorn be heading in? Honestly, I am curious about your vision.

The goal as stated by the creator was to be all about seeing bullies get justice served to them.

And where is it going instead?

Not OP, but more and more this sub is moving towards street fights with no context IMO.

And small time criminals who gets shot or killed and it is called justice.

A lot of the subs here just circle jerk eachother over extremely violent acts like "heh, justice served. dont wanna get shot by police? that guy shouldnt have been dumb enough to leave his house"

No joke, I once saw one guy making comments like "those kind of people (referring to small time criminals) should be removed from the society" and it was upvoted to the top. Another redditor countered his radical stance, to which he replied "then you should be removed from the society". Says something about this sub, don't you think?

Most large subs deteriorate once they get past a certain size.

Remember that mods are unpaid volunteers and would just sit there, constantly cleaning up the shitty comments and shitty submissions all day if they truly did their job the way they're supposed to; no one wants to do that for free.

Yeah, I know. I'm not talking about the mods though. I think they do what they can to moderate the content without being paid. I'm just pointing out the current problem of this sub. It's full of people who believe in justifiable violence. "OH HE TOUCHED YOU YOU CAN TOTALLY PULL YOUR GUN ON HIM!!!"

People who in the despair situation have no choice but to resolve with violence, but here in this sub such violence is often glamorized. It's pathetic to see people cheer when some bad guy is getting killed. Yes, they are all bad guys and should be dealt with, but using violence, whether on good guys or bad guys, is always a tragedy, for the dead or the alive.

Yea mods are redditors too. They may have wanted to build and mod a community but hell once it becomes a part time job I don't blame mods for dropping out, takes away from more redditing.

This is the main reason I'm not too interested of this sub.

If the guy was a threat and deserved to be shot, then it sure as hell was justice.

Agreed! Especially the most recent video with the short guy and the "bully".

The fact that the mods have left the decision making process of wether or not something is Justice up to the voting system is downright stupid! That means the sub is going to be whatever interests people and not justice porn. Fuck you mods!

Instead we are heading more towards a position where everything must have context no matter the case. No back story = post gone. No "justice" in the opinion of one mod = post gone. No "porn" in opinion of one mod = gone.

I didn't name the subreddit. It just follows the trend of the "porn" themed subreddits.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I miss the golden days when content on this sub was justiceporn... Now things like cats fighting and news articles where absolutely no justice has been administered yet reaches the front page.

I remember your (if you were a mod then) and other mods struggle to regulate the content a while back when new people started flooding in and posting non justiceporn content. Back then the majority wanted those posts to be deleted but we're far too few now.

Whenever I bring up the fact that this subreddit has gone downhill, and is continuing to do so, I'm horribly downvoted which just illustrates to me that this sub is beyond recovery of it's original content. I miss those golden days when I would leave this subreddit feeling so satisfied by the justice that I'd feel full. That never happens anymore...

Thank you for moderating this sub. I'll probably follow your path and unsub from here soon. I think it's only a matter of time.

Edit: Maybe we should create a new sub that actually has true justice hahaha.

Yes, that is correct I was there during that time. We got a lot of new users from /r/videos when the mall cop thing blew up. That is when Justice Porn really got popular and also when it started to go down hill.

You'll notice that none of the rules even get enforced. How long have we been in a "we'll let the community decide what's best for this sub" phase? Seriously. The mods need to slate some rules down and stick to them. Even if it means we might go a day or two without any good content.

I mean, the current state of /r/justiceporn is something between /r/whatcouldgowrong /r/IdiotsFightingThings and the article version of /r/courtroomjustice, and we're leaning heavily toward the latter.

Justice porn is about seeing justice in action. Reading about it is not justice porn. Yes, I just stated my opinion on the internet. If the community doesn't agree, I'm in the wrong community.

This sub used to be about genuine justice. Lots of stories where people acted like idiots and thought they could beat the system, but eventually got caught.

Now it's all blood lust, vigilante bullshit, and contextless fights.

I don't get it, you weren't top mod (not that this would make any difference), why should anybody care about the already random anonymous people moderating? What kind of vainglorious bullshit is this?

And what's with this "mods don't get enough credit". Firstly, mods are the friction that cause most of the bullshit. Secondly, most of the shit that happens on reddit is censoring people saying "oh fuck you idiot" - I don't see how rushing to an internet argument between two idiots, with a shiny badge and a hard hat makes you a hero.

Spam is nigh automatic, so most of your job is fixing the many false-positives.

So, I find it weird that you "retire". Isn't it the same as just... not clicking "moderation queue"?

Hey everyone... I will no longer be clicking the queue link FYI

Or is there something else involved like having to ignore the mod message indicator?

This is a sincere fucking question, because, due to your need for attention I've had to read:

/u/tottenhamhotsauce Best of luck moving forward, thanks for your contributions.

Holy fucking shit. Best luck moving forward? I don't know bro, can you ever move forward from writing shit and clicking shit on reddit?

What next? Update your résumé with I was a mod of justiceporn for x months and apply for /r/plumbing because you think you'd be good at it, or /r/legaladvice because you've always wanted to be a lawyer?

Or, what about /r/lumberjack, you know because you've always wanted to work outside?

How fucking removed from reality are you? Why the fuck do we need the hubris and bullshit of "who is wearing the sheriff's badge today?". Eh? Let's all get some walkie talkies and some sticks shaped like guns and run around the park playing internet superheros?

It's embarrassing.

That said, while justiceporn is one of those subs where the theme is something that requires someone of higher than dog intelligence to get and not turn it into something stupid, that's what downvoting is for.

300k people can downvote things that aren't justiceporn.

A word from our Brawndo spondor: Reddit's CEO Ellen Pao under SEC/FBI investigation for her part in her husband's ponzi scheme

If someone is going to le gild my comment and make Ellen look good as CEO, I'll have to balance things out. This part is unrelated to the top part of this comment. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

The current (before she is in prison) reddit joke CEO is Ellen Pao, as of a few weeks ago when Yishan Wong, (who personally hired her and put her forward for the CEO position, and has totally not had sex with her either, honest, he's married, she wouldn't do that) stepped down instantly without warning... and she was instated within the week. Unheard of.

Ellen Pao, a psychotic and entitled monster who is being investigated by the SEC and FBI along with her hubby for their role in a ponzi scheme ripping people off. Ellen Pao is fraudulently suing their previous employer to get some go-money as she is:

  • Bankrupt
  • Illiquid
  • In massive debt
  • Any other synonyms for fucked?

While doing so she is taking every chance to shit on every woman who has truly suffered discrimination at their job.

Ellen Pao is trying to characterize a relationship she had while at the company as "almost" rape, saying she "succumbed to advances"... and "while it wasn't rape, it was consensual... not rape... did I say rape enough yet?":

  • She invited the guy out for dinner
  • she said he was her hero and his mind was amazing
  • she bought him chocolates
  • she admitted she loved him
    • wanted to marry him
    • wanted to have kids with him
  • FYI: She never said this was rape, in fact she has MANY MANY TIMES, said "it was not rape". You know. Like a suspicious number of times. Which is weird. She usually says it like "it was entirely consensual dot dot dot", or "it wasn't rape at all dot dot dot". Like, I don't know, there's something sinister and almost rapey about her having sex with someone if he didn't leave his wife for her afterwards. Or she just wants the words "not rape" and "wasn't non-consensual" on the jury's mind.

But, wait for it. They had sex... and you know what that means in her mind. Entitlement.

So it turns out HE DECIDED NOT TO LEAVE HIS WIFE FOR HER. Ellen Pao seduced (sorry, succumbed to the advances of, and clearly someone who cannot make their own sober decisions about which dick to suck, needs to be a CEO. I know many (many) women who are capable of saying no to sucking dick (someone hold me...)) and screwed a married guy at work, then got antsy when he didn't leave his wife.

Wait... but that can't be true, I just said she didn't have sex with Yishan Wong, because he's married and... wait. Just to be clear *moves mic closer* Yishan Wong did not have sexual relations with Ellen Pao. Allegedly. I mean.

The current Reddit CEO Ellen Pao totally did not have sex with the last Reddit CEO Yishan Wong, just making that clear in case anyone else reads between the lines and gets the wrong idea, ALSO Ellen Pao DID NOT RAPE Yishan Wong. I know I probably shouldn't even bring it up, but I just want to be clear on that.

No, honestly, she didn't rape him, but you see the effect first hand now. Seriously though guys, this rumor should not get out of hand. Please make sure you tell people that Ellen Pao DID NOT rape Yishan Wong in case it comes up. I mean, even if people don't bring it up, it's probably salubrious and prophylactic just to casually mention that Ellen Pao did not rape Yishan Wong to get the CEO position. I mean, let's nip this rumor in the bud, before it spreads. Let's get ahead of it.

Edit: Guys this is getting out of hand, I've heard rumors that huffingtonpost is going to run the rape allegation story, that seems a bit unfair, we really shouldn't let this get out of hand.

She also did not promise him a cut of her "winnings" of $16,000,000 if he stepped down his reddit position (poorly paid one at that) and vie for ten years salary payment from her instead, by making her a "CEO", although a joke title here at le reddits, it looks good for her case.

ooooooooh snap! *Maury-I am not the father dance*

So when he decided not to leave his wife for her after a brief fling, she is on record showing she spent FIVE YEARS deliberately trying to stir shit up, only keeping emails and parts of reply chains that gave a context to her being "shunned". She goads people and tries her damnedest to cause conflict to get it on record. AND FAILS!

  1. She was paid MORE than her male colleagues
  2. Given the best mentorship, guidance and coaching from the most reknown and expensive coaches
  3. She had hundreds of complaints filed against her from WOMEN in the organization, that she MASSIVELY discriminated against filing poor reviews and criticisms and complaints against almost all women she worked with.
  4. She has emails showing her taking advice from lawyers back in 2008, then one friend of hers saying "delete all emails except those you can use to try and sway your case". So she did that. For five years.
  5. Her complains amount to: I was made to sit at the back and take notes. Despite only doing that on ONE occasion and actually spending the first days in the front row, people not letting me in to their deals... after people complaining she was always trying to get into deals after the research and diligence was done, instead of coming up with her own ideas. That's it, literally it.
  6. She was offered her dream job, the job she wrote she wanted, when she was found to have failed EVERY SINGLE employee assessment for five years running, and missing EVERY TARGET. She refused, knowing it would hurt her CASE she had been building if she accepted.
  7. She starts suing them while working there, being extremely abrasive, basically like Westboro Baptist abrasive, while trying to goad someone to make a move that would help her case. Nobody did.
  8. As SOON as she complained they hired an investigator for her, literally within the minute, to help her. She refused to speak to the investigator they hired to HELP HER, while she was preparing her case, and finally did ONLY WITH HER OWN LAWYER PRESENT lol.

So she wanted to paint a picture of her being oppressed. What a sad fuck. Pissing in the face of every hard working person and shitting on the progress so many amazingly talented women have made. That's right Ellen Pao, pull down your kegs and shit into their mouths of all those professional women who would never stoop to such dirty fraud to get ahead.

She goes mental (read the whole thing) and now wants $16M. I don't want 1 gold to go on her record as "growing reddit". le lulz. Reddit, you crazy.

Ellen Pao wants someone to gild her $16,000,000 because she fucked a married guy, they talked about him leaving his wife and marrying her and having kids, he didn't... somehow that entitles her to $16,000,000, and it's totally not a hail-mary because she's going to prison when the SEC / FBI get through untangling the ponzi scheme in the Caymans accounts of her husband.

This TL:TL;DR;DR was brought to you by Brawndo and m'night shyamalamanalalan

I was going to refute a bit more of what you've said, but I figured I would just point out the most ridiculous one.

300k people can downvote things that aren't justiceporn.

What? In what world is this true? We need mods to keep the masses from completely ruining the subreddit. Quite literally this mod said he was leaving because the mods were allowing the subreddit to go AWAY FROM the intended idea. Without the rules and checks from the mods this subreddit would literally just be /r/watchpeopledie with no context what so ever on any post, or people completely making things up.

I can't stand this mentality that idiots have that other idiots can somehow moderate themselves on reddit, that posts will somehow always work out because of the fucking upvote and downvote system. It makes no sense what so ever. 90+ percent of the people voting don't give a shit what subreddit it's on, don't give a shit about intended content or accuracy, and are simply saying "I blew some air out of my nose at this post."

[–]FogestMod[S,M] -5 points 17 days ago See that is the problem right there. While you may think that is what it means, others have different opinions of what it means and what they want to see in this subreddit. We did at one point try and filter out things we didn't think were /r/JusticePorn worthy, however it is hard to determine what exactly counts as Justice, and what doesn't. It is very subjective. Therefore we have decided it is best to leave it to Reddit's voting system. While it is not the best solution to leave it to the community, it still seems better than the subreddit being completely curated. And yes, I'd like to fix the wording of that rule for reposts, however I am not sure what is fair there and what isn't. We also don't want to have to search up an old post to try and compare dates. We review a lot of submissions and that would add a lot of times. Often times us mods just remember something being posted in a more relative time like "5 months ago", or even less specific than that. That is why it is hard to put down a number here.

/u/q_-_p hit the nail on the head with /u/fogest. The issue at hand is lax controls because of lack of new content and the hastening of 500k subscribers.

We need mods to keep the masses from completely ruining the subreddit.

Ah, yes, the proles. You see John Preston... without Father, we have chaos. If people are allowed to feel and do as they wish, we will have chaos?

You know what happened the last time people were left to their own devices? They created democracy and governments, roads, sewers, schools.

We can't let them make the same mistake again.

That said, and everyone should see that movie. This really isn't a philosophical debate - I know the problem.

People tend to upvote what is "good and funny" not what is "on topic" and often good content is posted to the wrong place.

And BECAUSE of that, instead of making reddit just about tags, we make these fixed silos and put guards all around them.

Someone posts a ten hour bukkake video and tags it sesame street instead of semen street? Don't worry it'll be NSFW. Then people can curate multi-reddits and promote them as "safe places to go" if they want.

Reddit is an uncomfortable mix of half digg and half that weird forum community I keep forgetting exists.

It's a broken data model / mental model of reddit that causes us to need so many rules / bullshit - and those breakages are what attract the internet superheros.

If we fix the reddit data model, we won't need mods.

Imagine.

Marty, where we're going, we don't need mods!

<snip> I deleted a big explanation of what could be done, because, fuck reddits

Fail Edit: Le reddits, sorry

I agree with your analysis in your comment, yet you state "the mods are turning this into something it shouldn't be", which is true, though it just kinda reinforces the idea we need to move out of group-think silos

Hey, I'm a retired former op of the efnet IRC channel #ff7. I served for fourteen grueling months from 1997 to November 1998. It's clear that you just don't understand what it takes.

I think you overestimate the importance or even potential importance of a subreddit. period. let alone one whose content typically has "worldstar" screamed during it, someone getting arrested, or a no-context knockout. You should have done something better with your life some time ago.

Good on you, man. I've been meaning to resign from /r/webgames because I haven't moderated anything in a few months until last week. There's always a spot open on /r/Brofessor if you want.

This seems a bit passive aggressive. I know you're trying to sound mature and everything, but no one who frequents subreddits even knows who the moderators are or cares. You should have sent this message to the other mods instead of making a scene out of it in public like this. It's a bit embarrassing.

A resignation letter?

You guys are seriously out of the grips with reality. This is hilarious/ so very sad.

Not knowing how much effort it must take to moderate this sub, i thank you and understand when someone has had enough. Its one of my favorites and i think its fine as is.

I mod subs with 10K-25K subscribers. It all depends on the community, but generally the larger a sub gets, the work skyrockets. It's a lot of busy work and I honestly have come to terms to really mod like 1 hour a week. There's more to life than internet community management.

For now it may be fine, we'll see how it goes though. Remember there are still trial rules going on. It is better than it would be on the normal rules...

Trial? 5 months ago?

Got damn the OJ trial is the only one I can think of that took more than 5 months.

Can you list five things (rules or otherwise) you LIKE that you think should be in place moving forward and five things (rules or otherwise) that you think are either currently in place or will be in place soon and that are actively hurting the experience here on justiceporn?

Honestly I don't think there should be many rules at all. I think that articles should be removed again, self posts allowed, and bully videos allowed. Honestly sometimes the context isn't why I cared to watch a video on here. It doesn't always need to have good context to be a good video. The rules that may come into play put the content you see into the hands of whichever mod is most active. So anything you do see is essentially curated content based on one mods sole judgement. No review with other mods, nothing, just their own opinion, upvotes and downvotes being meaningless.

I really hope articles will be removed again one day, really one of the only bad things I can say about this sub. I also wasnt aware that some mods do what you say they do. That really sucks

You pretty much described what this sub should be about. And if the other mods are just going full bonehead Nazi mode, then there's really no point of looking at this sub anymore. Thanks for everything. Hope all goes well for you, Fogest.

Just kidding, I have no idea what you're talking about but I am certain you will be happier away from here. Take care, man or woman.

I never understood people trying to change something they don't like. Yes you may think that this sub is just "fightporn" but whatever that was its intention. It's called justiceporn for a reason. Sure we'll never know the full story behind some of these videos but screw it. If you don't like it and can't play make believe a little then start your own subreddit. I don't want to come here and read shitty news articles from your bumfuck town about a girl scout getting her stolen money back.

Thank you for trying your hardest OP

I mostly agree, but I think context is pretty valuable. Reddit like it or not is a large media relay and this subreddit is quite large, without context these videos can perpetuate a lie that can directly affect the people in the video's life. No, it's not the fun way to do it. It's fun to make believe, but it's irresponsible.

But I don't care for articles or arrests if they are not filmed live.

I can see 7 submissions to this sub in the last 48 hrs..... you must be swamped.

BTW, there is zero problems with stopping volunteering. You can just leave your explanation at "I'm leaving", and everything else is unnecessary. I mean, it's NICE to give some kind of reason, but don't feel like you're obliged. You volunteer for things out of the goodness of your heart, no blame attaches if you reached the limits of what you are comfortable giving.
