listen, white person to white person

white people do not need a selfie day
WHITE PEOPLE DO NOT NEED A SELFIE DAY
W H I T E P E O P L E D O N O T N E E D A S E L F I E D A Y
Every day in the media is a whiteout.
Every tv show on prime time tv is a whiteout.
Every magazine is a whiteout.
Every movie is a whiteout.
Every day in America is a whiteout.

I deserve to feel beautiful. And I deserve to feel proud. Im mainly Italian. With a little bit of Polish and Venezuelan. And Im proud of every bit of it. When I Google “beautiful people” people don’t come up that look like me, they’re not chunky with a fat face, they don’t have maturing messy dreadlocks, they don’t have chubby cheeks. They all look like models. The argument that “if I Google beautiful people no one looks like me” is invalid. NOBODY looks like that except for models. That’s why there’s a problem with MEDIA, not with YOU. Don’t tell me that “everyday is whiteout” bc what are you talking about? No. Everyday everyone can post their selfies and honestly, when it comes to Tumblr, the minorities USUALLY get more notes bc that’s just how Tumblr is. So don’t tell me that everyday I feel beautiful bc you’re wrong. I deserve to feel beautiful and proud of my looks today. Everyone deserves to feel proud and beautiful.

"Why can’t i be proud of my white skin" short answer; because it’s not hard. Your skin color doesn’t threaten to kill you daily. Doesn’t makes you lose people you love. You don’t have to search for media representation of yourself & do not have to fight the unsettling feeling that "maybe you’re not normal and do not belong in this world at all". You don’t need reassurance. It’s not about you.

  • Black People:Let's have a day where we can all show selfies online!
  • White People:ummmm excuse me.....but you're oppressing me honey...why can't i show my selfies???? :/:/:/...let's have a #selfieout not just a #blackout....
if you're white you are not racially oppressed

honestly what is so hard about this concept. you see white selfies with hundreds of thousands of notes on your dash every day. white people are the majority in tv, movies, ad campaigns, etc. blackout was a day for those who don’t get this privilege to be the celebrated ones. if you post in whiteout you’re undermining those with less privilege than you. end of story.

The whiteout is seriously annoying me. I’m white myself, but why the rest of you feel the fuckin need to be so blatantly racist and disgusting is beyond me. We’re already the standard of beauty, why the fuck y’all always gotta be about yourselves? They deserved #blackout, and y’all stupid fucking spoiled brats are trying to make everything about yourselves again. I’m really tired of it

ya'll...

a simple equation for you:

systemic racism > being bullied in school.

i realize a bunch of you are obviously teens and caught up in being rejected by yr peers but like…get your heads out of your asses.

Disclaimer: Idk if anyone is reblogging this directly from me anymore, but it is obvious its sorta lost its context. So this ‘equation’ is there because ppls excuse for whiteout was they were bullied, but that misses the point as to WHY they had to co-opt this action created by and for black tumblr. So this is about THAT statement being a false equivalency for this whole shitshow.

The fucked up part

Is that a bunch of the people participating are experiencing depression and confidence/self-esteem issues. I 100% support self-care and self-love, but #whiteout/#whiteselfieday is a white supremacist movement seeking to silence systematic racism.

Blackout wasn’t for black individuals to feel good about themselves. It was for us to come together as a community and protect each other.

White people are bullied and experience low self-esteem, but that isn’t because of systematic anti-whiteness.

It would’ve been cool to have a day of just selfies all day long from everyone, but hijacking POC empowerment is fucked up.

The only thing white people ever band together as a community to do is fuck us over.

Hey, my name is Chey and i am proud to be a white! I dont post selfies that much because people tell me im ugly… but because of whiteout, i dont have to be ashamed of my skin and who i am :) its so hard being 50% italian, 10% danish, 10% german, 5% french .00678% cherokee, 5% russian, 10% canadian, 5% australian and 5% polish. Anyway, happy #whiteselfieday!!! :)
