Sites like Niche Gamer and Techraptor are on the rise, while KiA's subscriber reach and the citizen journalism coordinated on 8chan are exposing scandals that were brushed under the rug for years - blacklists are becoming a thing of the past, and smear campaigns are growing less and less effective. After Gamasutra bled money for months they finally let Leigh Alexander go for her vile screeds. Even places like Kotaku and Polygon, in between hit pieces on gamergate, are beginning to actually disclose their conflicts of interest.

Game journalism is progressing - slowly and with no shortage of roadbumps, but progressing - from a cross between the Hearst papers and a mafia to an industry with integrity and standards that turns its back on hate speech.
