Why is everybody in GG so mad about Tim's joke and declaring it super racist? The joke basically said that a lot of gamergaters tweet notyourshield which is true right? There actually are a lot of people who tweet that. I think he was trying to connect the armor they made in the joke and shield together. So the joke is they were tweeting about a literal shield that isn't yours.

I know you could argue that him having the sock puppet say it implies that notyourshield are all sockpuppets and don't exist. But I think I'd need to see more context from how he introduced the puppet and if what else it did to be sure that is what he was actually implying. If he just had a puppet say all the GG jokes so he can joke that he can't be blamed for what the puppet says then I don't think it is enough to say he was definitely implying notyourshield is all sockpuppets.

To show what I'm talking about here is an example of a KIA user angry at Tim's joke. I think this person might be overreacting a bit.

The fact that they can't see they're perpetuating the idea of a Noble Savage is mind blowing. This is some of the most blatantly racist shit I've ever seen. Holy fuck. Like this is some Last of the Mohicans level shit. The way they feel a need to prop up some members of marginalized groups, but only those that agree with them. The rest are clearly savages. This is so fucking racist and they're completely oblivious as to why!

He implicitly called the people in NotYourShield sockpuppets. IE: He called OliverCampbell, Lizzyf620, and countless other women and minorities sockpuppets. It's basically "fuck you, I know what's best for you idiots."

He said this to a room of, surprise surprise, mostly white men.

I'm beginning to understand why these wealthy far left types hate white men so much - it's because they are white men and deep down they all know they're a bunch of shitbags.

A stretch? 'NotYourShield are sockpuppets' has been the aGG go-to since the beginning. It's bullshit, it's bigoted, and yet they STILL cling to it.

It is what he implied. Tim isn't quite so stupid as to say out loud that NotYourShield supporters are sockpuppets for white male nerds. He is, however, stupid enough to imply that. Or do you claim that he had no prior knowledge that anti-GG has labeled NotYourShield posters as sockpuppets and just happened to deliver that joke with that accessory?

Oh I'm sure he's aware of it. He's also likely aware of the way that whenever GGers who are "anti-harassment" pick a new target to smear, it's immediately followed by a bunch of definitely-not-related-third-party-trolls-who-surely-aren't-sock-puppets popping up to harass said target based on those same smears, by complete coincidence.

Right, and blaming NotYourShield is his way of sticking it up to the trolls. I suppose I can sympathize with that, addressing the trolls and the harassment problem is hard work, but picking on women and minorities requires no effort.

When he made his joke "How many gamergaters does it take to make a single piece of armor?" "Fifty. One to do the modeling, one to do the materials, and 40 to tweet that is not your shield."

A sockpuppet saying that Notyourshield is literally a piece of armor made by gamergaters to protect them isn't exactly high symbolism.

Let me just remind you that it's not like Tim just pulled that sockpuppet out of his ass and made the joke up on the spot. He wrote a speech and deliberately picked a sockpuppet to make a tasteless joke he crafted.

He must have at least spent an hour finding a sock and buying and gluing googly eyes onto it.
