That's assuming that a woman wasn't failed by her upbringing, she may feel she has no other choice, no one ever told her she deserved better, she couldn't afford college, the list of reasons she could have ended up there is endless.

So? That's a societal issue which has nothing to do with the strip club

Edit: this is a bit personal, but I would LOVE to be a (male) stripper. It actually sounds really exciting (and like good exercise).

I wasn't aware that these institutions exist in little bubbles, isolated from society.

Sure, of course I'm not blaming the people who own this thing for sexism in the world today. This individual club is just one point, one node in a cyclical, self-sustaining web of oppressive relationships.

It's different when your a male, you probably haven't been systematically mistreated like a piece of meat.

I don't like feeling like a piece of meat, what I have to offer extends far beyond my physical appearance. It makes me uncomfortable when people comment on my appearance, it's always nice, but I don't like it. What I look like is not at all part of what I have to offer the world.

Then don't be a stripper. There are woman and men who take pride in their appearence, and aren't offended by comments about that.

And thinking someone's hot (and wanting to see them naked) isn't mutually exclusive with understanding that they often have more to offer than their body

You are missing the whole point, not all of the women don't have a choice to just not be a stripper.

How many women are forced at gunpoint, threat of physical harm, or threat of harm to their families to be strippers?

Those are the only ones that don't have a choice.

I mean, on an individual level, there are always degrees of freedom. Sure, society puts us all on different paths towards different destinations but we all have some level of control over what we do.

I don't think this changes anything I've said so far though.

Even if, theoretically, no one is FORCED to enter these roles, society creates them, and due to the way things are, these roles of subordination are always going to be filled as long as they exist.

My entire point here was that the ideals that lead to veganism should also result in wanting to work towards a society that no longer produces these types of roles to fill in the first place.

I expected better from r/vegan.
