when crafts go bad
UH OH: Claudio Cutugno Tried Out Black Sparkle Face at His Milan Fashion Show
Last week brought us Zendaya and Giuliana's dustup over Zendaya's locs (Guiliana has since issued a more sincere apology), and this week's OMGEVENIFICOULDICOULDN'TEVEN moment is brought to you by Claudio Cutugno, a fashion designed you've probably never heard of, who put his models in black sparkle-face for Fashion Week. The internets are NOT HAPPY about his decision to take the Black Swan-type theme of his show up and over the faces of his models, saying any black face is unacceptable.
AS ALWAYS, our rule of thumb is that if the minority culture is offended by something the majority culture does, the majority culture does not get to discount those views. People aren't lying if they say they are offended by racist undertones: they're relating their honest response, as people who have lived in a white-majority world for their entire lives.
BUT BEFORE WE ASK YOU YOUR OPINION, let us just admit that part of us is dying to cover our faces in glitter on the daily (those Becca powders have us obsessed), and part of us thinks this looks like a bad attempt at a neutral mask (drama students, I know you know what's up with Jacques Lecoq). It's also a little bit Phantom of the Opera-SLASH-"I left this mud mask on too long and now it's in my hair."
OKAY, SOUND OFF! Is this look stupid, offensive, or just another case of craft gone too far?
