You'd have to be at that altitude and be able to take a photo with two of your hands and hold both ends of the rope taut.

There are several ways to get this photo without actually being in danger.

I could drive up to skyline drive and take this picture from an overlook using one hand to hold the top of the rope, the other to take the picture and my foot to keep the rope taught. I could frame one of the mountains in the background to make it appear perilous.

Also could be a photography trick called compression, similar to when you see the moon looking large next to a house in a photo.

Obviously. But then there's also Photoshop. There all sorts of ways this image can be made, but for this subreddit, the fact that the image is what it is suffices. It's not like the concept that it's conveying is any less unnerving if it were posed.

The point is, we don't know either way. So stop acting like you've blown the lid off something.
