she's right. when Hollywood does that type of thing there's clearly an agenda and it is not an artistic one.

Big Hero Six did it fine.

They merged it, but now you got Fantastic Four with the Storm siblings different races. The only reason for that is because they were too afraid to make Reed Richards black and wanted to market to African Americans.

I haven't researched it but it seemed obvious to me Jordan was cast because he worked with the director in Chronicle and he should be fine as Human Torch. The others were cast based on the comic characters rather than trying to find a black Reed and/or black Sue.

Some characters races were changed.

Yep, Races were changed. and powers. and personalities. and the overall plot and.... Yeah, Big Hero Six is close to the Super Mario Bros movie in terms of adaptation loyalty.

Disney did to Big Hero 6 what Disney does with all of their movies. They Disnyfied the fuck out. Was still a great movie, but to call it Big Hero 6 is just kind of well... dishonest in my opinion. Owell, not like any other Disney movies are anywhere near their origin story.

On the backdrop of San Francisco and Tokyo merged together.

Big Hero Six technically white-washed the comic.

How's that?

picking characters for diversity sake instead of the character? she hints at two points. one of them is staying true to the comic book characters, but fair enough if you think that movies should deviate from comic books depictions and storylines to become their own film (i think they're great sometimes, unless they take away the essence of a long established character). the thing about Hollywood is that when they put out movies with characters with long consolidated histories (in Michelle's case she refers to the caucasian ones i guess), and sometimes the histories have deeply cultural roots or gender traits, it feels very patronizing to minorities such as herself when minorities that don't even look the part or resemble the part play the role, thus creating an uneasy feeling that it's really done for diversity sake. not everybody feels the same and i think she's right to represent a large portion of minorities that feel patronized when they are not given their own identity but are just there to fill in a role for diversity sake. now, that's not to say that every movie with a minority playing a traditionally white character is questionable (Idris Elba in Thor was badass, the new Johnny Storm looks fine, the new Aquaman i can see making more sense than the comic book one honestly etc), but there are cases where its just obvious and unnecessary and need to be recognized.

Like when they had a white guy play Moses? Or Bane?

[–]vadergeek 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Bane's white as hell in the comics. Hispanic, but with an English father and fairly light skin. Moses is white by some definitions.

yea Tom Hardy sounded super hispanic in the movie, Moses im sure looked exactly like christian fucking bale. also that prince of Persia? totally white.

Idris Elba in Thor was badass

Idris was a waste. He did fine with the role but he's pretty close to the top of shoehorned.

What's the agenda whwn the turn minority characters white?
