BitTipper Rules

  • No begging posts, please do not ask for tips.
  • Keep it clean, don't post anything you wouldn't want your granny to see.
  • Read the stickied post !!!
  • Please no referral links :)
  • Deleting comments that have been tipped will result in a ban.
  • No Tip Train posts with ever increasing tips, they lead to bad feeling when someone stops and takes the money.

User Flair system

Before you comment on any threads posted in this sub you will need to be given a BitTippers flair ( a thing after your name :). Without a flair you will not be eligible to receive any tips and your comment will be removed. We do this to try and stop alt accounts.
Some common user flairs:
  • "legend" has been a outstanding contributor.
  • "mod" is a mod
  • "BitTipper of the week" is the current BitTipper of the week as voted for by the community
  • "BTOTW" is a previous BitTipper of the week winner.
  • "New Guy dd/mm/yy" is a new tipper with the day/month/year they were given flair.
  • "BitTipper Level X" is a tipper who has completed X number of giveaway posts.

Post Flair system

When you create a post, or giveaway, on /r/BitTippers you should flair your post so that other can quickly see if the giveaway is open or closed.

Posts that do not have flair will not count towards your level flair

Some common post flairs:
  • "Open" is for an active giveaway.
  • "Closed" closed is for a giveaway that is no longer going on. This is used to let others know that tips are no longer being given out.
  • "Contest Open" is a special flair that the bittippers service will look for. If it sees this flair it will switch the post into contest mode. In contest mode the vote counts are hidden and comments are sorted in random order. When you create a post with this flair it will take up to 30 minutes for the service to find the post and change it into contest mode.
  • "Contest Closed" is another special flair that the bittippers service will look for. If it sees this flair it will switch the post out of contest mode. This will allow the original poster (and everyone else) to see the vote counts and sort the comments.

How it works

BitTippers welcomes you to enter some competitions and giveaways and hopefully you will be tipped some bits. But please remember without people tipping then this sub will soon die so please remember to make your own posts and share the bits with others.
If needs be I WILL BAN people who do not tip back to others some of the tips they have received here at BitTippers. It is not in the spirit of this sub if you take, take, take but do not give a little in return.
Every time you make a new tipping thread I will upgrade your tipping flair, please be patient if I am a little slow at times :)
If a post is marked with a level number in the title only enter if your BitTipper flair level matches or exceeds the given level
Do not tip anyone without a flair, if you see someone post who has no flair point them towards the sticky post.

Guys I am so angry this morning :(
So it turns out bitcoinsanta is Charles_changetip aka bitbytip, aka tipbybit aka sonic_qest aka probably many other alts.
To give you some background, I was pretty pissed off when it was revealed the bitbytip was actually a change tip employee paid to tip rather than the super generous guy he presented to be. I exchanged messages with bitbytip via pm and powertippers modmail at the time making it clear that I disapproved of what he was doing. I also messaged gorillamania (nick from change tip) about it.
So even though at the time he replied, from tipbybit[M] via /r/PowerTippers/ sent 3 months ago I understand what you are saying. I'll try to be more clear in the future. All I really wanted to do was to tip and create a community of tippers so we can make bitcoin adoption happen faster. I believe we can accomplish this with ChangeTip, and that is why I joined them, but I clearly still have a lot to learn about communicating with the community.
He just did it again anyway !!!
Also angry with gorilla as like I said I messaged him about it and he replied "It wasn't an attempt to drive our numbers artificially, and this activity represents a negligible percentage of our recent growth. Instead, we wanted real world people to tip and provide feedback and insights. I agree his tips are perceived as spam. We've asked him to stop. Talking to him in a few minutes about correcting some of his other behaviors."

So yup, I pretty pissed with changetip :(
There will be no Changetip BitTipper of the week this week as a) they have not sent the prize money for last weeks contest or this weeks and b) I don't want to promote them.
Any tips I may make today will be in dogecoin.

I don't see that Charles did anything wrong. I wouldn't see anything wrong with a bank employee hiring a Santa suit and standing on the street giving out money? What Charles did promotes ChangeTip, Bitcoin, crytpo currency and the BitTipping community and I think it's wrong to make him out as a bad guy. I consider Charles to be one of us, he's a fellow BitTipper who happens to work for ChangeTip.

me too.. I really think he overdid it.. but If I was in his place I will likely do the same (just less spammy)... when I knew he's a changetip employer my first reaction was "that makes sense" it disappointed me that he's not just generous, but the tips he do are still real so I'm not completely against him.

Charles has been generous and kind to everyone he has interacted with. I'm irritated that users now retroactively resent the generosity because he has a connection to Changetip.

the question I'm wondering isn't "is he generous" I know he Is but "is he really gets paid for giving people?!" then /r/changetip will be in trouble

Lol he not a BitTipper !! He never tips here !! When he first started as bitbytip he made it clear he didn't like BitTippers. He believed in 1$ tips and thought my micro tips were pointless. He even created rumours that BitTippers was full of alts pretty rich because he got onboard with freebits, the home of the alt !!!

Im not a tech guy, im not one of the super smart types that are at the core of the bitcoin technology. Im a 37 year old former jock athlete who likes to workout. I am educated but in education and taught and now counsel. Im representative of that demographic that knows nothing about bitcoin and go about the world clueless as to this great technology. Luckily for me in late 2013 while on my silver newsletter site I came across bitcoin and became intrigued. Now I consider myself astutely educated on all things bitcoin and promote it anyway I go. Everyone of my social media sites is flooded with it. The point im trying to make is that for a guy like who represents so many of the non core bitcoin enthusiasts out there, all this inter bitcoin fighting seems silly. We all want the same thing at the end of the day. I want bitpay making more commericals. I want coinbase and circle and other wallets increasing their profiles. And if changetip wants to spam tips and it results in people like me stumbling across bitcoin and then end in up all in just like me (not net worth all in of course lol) but fundamentally, then I see it all has having what we call in poker as +Ev. Just my humble opinion. If anyone wants to continue this convo or any other bitcoin convos or verify how passionate I am about the bitcoin community, check me out on twitter dranalli23, that way u can put a face to my screename as well :)

I've been off reddit for a few days and I seemed to have missed some of this action. Can you explain to me why it is bad to have to have paid tippers?

  1. It drives their numbers up artificially
  2. Self-promotion is generally frowned upon
  3. It's dishonest. A lot of people see their posts and think, 'Hey this guy is so sincere and generous'.
I think changetip employees who create tipping threads should indicate (IN THAT THREAD, and not on a sub normal people cannot access like powertippers) that they are in fact paid to tip so that people don't harbor any misconceptions.

You are honest and up front. Like that! But don't agree with your anger towards changetip and Charles. It has never been a secret and there have been several modmails about his identity (but so many modmails it can be hard to follow them all). He is promoting changetip by giving away free bitcoins and I hope he will continue to do it.
