This is a very extreme example of cupping. I've had it done many times and it's not necessary to leave them on for as long as they were for this fellow.

Maybe you could explain what it's meant to do?

as a person that gets cupping treatments without having to pay money for them, i would like to say that the less extreme form of cupping (where it basically just gives you a giant hickey) actually does work. i've seen it done to around 50 different individuals and they all say that it helps loosen up whatever muscles they have had cupped. just because it's extremely hard to quantify, and therefore produce scientific research on, doesn't mean that it does not work.

i'm not sure about this whole blood letting/cupping thing though.

I had this done when i did my abroad in china last summer, and its never suppose to bleed to that level >.>. But its suppose to cure Multiple aliments such as colds and other Inflammatory lung conditions. it does seem a little extreme, one of my classmates told me that if you do this regularly the marks will basically become non existent after the process meaning you were very healthy. Whats even weirder (something that i think is just a cash grab) is Gua Sha which is a process of people scraping your skin with different animals bones... apparently if you scrape where ever ur ailment is it will be cured...

So, you're into cupping but you think Gua Sha is just a cash grab. What a discerning individual you are.

Never said that one works over the other like most "Alternative" treatments for diseases there all ineffective. just saying they're both cultural medical treatments that will always be relevant in China. I'm just saying one is having some plungers on your back while the other is mutilation or even borderline masochistic.

I love guasha... but not for the healing aspect. It's just a nice massage and helps to get rid of the bloat (I do it to myself with a piece of jade).
