There is probably no reliable source for any rape numbers. So many rapes go unreported. Then you have to factor in child rape where the child is too afraid to tell anyone.

Here's the report from the CDC The numbers on pages 28/29 of the pdf (18/19 of the report). You'll have to do the math yourself, and with the lifetime results, but when I did a while back, I think I got 38%. That being said, I don't know what the overlap in the categories is.

What? It entirely and completely detracts from his point. If he was making a point at all, it was the assertion that these numbers from the military say something about the incidence of rape by men against men.

How would the proportion of men in a population not be relevant when making claims about a high number of man-on-man rape cases in that population? It's a confounding variable, and the identification of confounding variables is arguably the most important part of population studies- otherwise you're making false assumptions of causation, such as this guy (and maybe you? I have no idea what you think is happening here based on that comment) thinking that the fact that so many military assault claims is due to anything other than the fact that men make up a huge majority of the armed forces.

according the the american bar association around 39% of domestic violence victims are men, and 23% of domestic rape cases have a male victim. Doesn't really relate to the statistic above but it does give some perspective. Plus men are significantly less likely than women to report domestic violence or rape.

well besides pulling numbers out of your ass, the studies into the issue vary wildly. in truth, we are uncertain how many women commit sex acts. but what is known is that many women (and men) don't think it's possible for a woman to even commit a sex act and this "joke" encourages that mindset. saying that a victim is a liar without at least attempting to find the truth is horrible. that guy may be lying about being raped. but many women lie about being raped too. but that doesn't mean we should automatically disregard a person because they might be lying. everyone might be lying about everything.
