People with integrity. D1 doesn't care about the community at all. Otherwise he wouldn't have discarded Project M after preaching about his one unit stuff.
Whether or not his monetary goals align with those of the community as a whole is a a distant second in his list of priorities.

Real talk D1 has been offered 5 figure SALARIES from other FGC games and he stuck with smash. This was BEFORE the "we esports" era of smash. So you don't know what you're talking about.

Pros: - He says lol stuff on the mic.
Cons: - He's a hypocrite because he preaches "one unit" while ignoring PM, to the point he outright refuses to even acknowledge it exists. - He compared the smash scene to racial segregation. - He's pushing one unit even though it's actually healthier to keep Smash 4 and Melee separate because its fans are different and don't want to be alienated by people shoving the other game down their throats.
But yeah D1 is totally awesome for the scene...

People like you are just naive. Their are people passionate about smash that want to turn this into their livelihood. That means if you're not a top player you need to do so by other means. Getting a respectable job with a decent company that allows you to directly participate in the game you love and help promote it is literally the best you can ask for if you're not currently competing. His mindset changed because the game changed. He's doing exactly what he needs to do to live his life prosperously AND be involved with smash.

The ENTIRE point of his new position at twitch is to promote smash. If you can't understand how that would be benefiting the community then you are blind. The fact that he's only promoting melee/smash4 is not a detriment to the community (this coming as a primarily melee/pm fan). You do realize that community growth means more players picking up all of the games right?
Basically what this comes down to is that you're salty he's not actively promoting your favorite version of the game. This is in no way equivalent to "directly hurting the scene" or "being the reason that pm is gone." If D1 were to start promoting PM would that magically change its presence at APEX? No, it wouldn't.
