As someone with PTSD, thank you.
I'm so sick of people trivializing the condition, when they have literally no idea what it's like to have to deal with it.

For real as a fellow sufferer of PTSD it annoys the everloving fuck out of me when some fucker says they were "triggered" by some stupid shit for a goddamn eating disorder.
Motherfucker, I don't see you waking up soaked in sweat, screaming and kicking because you saw a goddamn Big Mac. I don't see your dumbass put your head on a swivel when an argument starts, or drop like a rock when a car backfires.
GTFO with your "trigger" bullshit, you don't know what PTSD or Acute Anxiety caused by PTSD is even really like. Fucking attention whores.
What. Since when did the word trigger have a specific association with PTSD. The word Trigger is etymologically older than the diagnosis of PTSD. If I talk about triggering an election or triggering a rifle, am I demeaning people with PTSD?
If someone is trying to avoid smoking triggers by also avoiding coffee (for example), why does there have to be any allusion to PTSD?
I don't seek to push an agenda, I just genuinely think this entire discussion is stupid and unproductive and, by extension, all y'all are too.
I think that the point that these guys are making is that tumblrinas are using this term when their feels get hurt, when in truth something like a PTSD trigger is something many times more dire than some fat fucker getting slapped by reality.
I'm not a sufferer myself but my good friend is ex army and he has minor PTSD. Allow me to reassure you that it really sucks for him, and it is nothing like what these over sensitive fatties experience.

You're just reiterating the premise I argued against, without any allusion to the content of my argument...
Seriously. "Whoosh" doesn't even begin to cover this...
Trigger is just a word. It's an older word than the diagnosis of PTSD. If PTSD Triggers are so unique, they should have their own word. Alternately, people could develop a sense of nuance in language - but that would require empathy and understanding. Perhaps society is just not capable of these virtues anymore...
Are you really arguing for a sense of empathy an understanding while berating someone on an online forum because you don't understand a severe medical condition? Kid, hang up your fedora and shut the laptop. You've had enough Internet today.
I don't understand the relevance of the medical condition. When I made that point, you just reiterated how severe it is, and now you're attacking me based on a stereotype designed entirely to piss people off. Troll detected.
Yes, while "trigger" is of course a very old word these fatties are obviously using it in reference to a PTSD trigger. As in, you hear a noise that sounds like a gun shot and instantly drop or freak out because your trauma has been triggered. It's offensive because these hamplanets act like someone calling out their bullshit is exactly as stressful as fucking war was for someone with PTSD.
I see where you're headed, so you get my upvote.
But I really doubt they legitimately get the same reaction that a vietnam vet would have, when their past is brought up to them.
Also, I don't think they have EVER brought up that they were diagnosed and looking for treatment for it. Which is just lazy. And as far as I know, this hasn't been a thing to use "trigger words" until the internet happened.
Which is what we're referring to. Your examples of uses of trigger were correct though.

Not really. When you have an Acute Anxiety attack from PTSD you don't throw a fit like a spoiled brat that didn't get their way. You don't scream and yell at people about how they're "triggering" you. And 9 out of 10 times you don't even want to be around other people let alone throw a big baby fit at them.

For a goddamn eating disorder? Whatever do you mean?
You think people with eating disorders don't have triggers? You think eating disorders can't cause pain on the same level as PTSD? Or am I misunderstanding you?
Eating disorders are a symptom of larger issues. The eating disorder doesn't cause PTSD, the underlying issue which caused the eating disorder might.
PTSD is caused by a traumatic event, you don't automatically qualify for PTSD just because you have a mental health issue. These people have co-opted a legit, debilitating condition to victimize themselves even further.
People with true PTSD don't run around crying about being triggered by the most mundane bullshit ever, only someone seeking attention does that. These fuckers act like having PTSD is a goddamn badge of honor for their victimhood, fuck them.

You are out of your depth here. Eating disorders are very complex and can be caused by a myriad of factors, a lot of which are genetic. I know the difference between ED and PTSD, both are serious issues that can drastically affect your quality of life. My beef was with the assumption that eating disorders weren't as serious as PTSD.
Like I said, eating disorders are a symptom of a larger underlying issue. Not sure how you think I'm out of my depth. I deal with these type of people in therapy every week and every single one of them is just looking for attention.
Those of us with actual PTSD can spot the fakers a mile away. They always list their symptoms and they have every single symptom listed on WebMD. No one presents with every symptom, it depends on the severity of your PTSD which symptoms you'll end up having.
Maybe I'm just bitter from having to listen to fat fucks whine and cry about how victimized they are trying to get sympathy and validation from a group of us who really were victims of bad shit. Trying to compare not being able to put the fucking fork down to me being stabbed and almost bleeding to death while watching my own mom being raped is fucking insulting.
No, I don't feel bad you're a fat lazy fuck. I don't give a fuck if your joints hurt cuz you weigh 400lbs. I have pins, plates and rods all throughout my body, yet I still go to PT and work my ass off and I'm in shape and I have legit traumatic injuries, not just some sore joints from toting around enough blubber for 3 fucking humpback whales.

Every single person with an eating disorder is just looking for attention? Or is the language barrier fucking with me?
Must be the language barrier. I was saying people who claim to have PTSD and whine about being "triggered" by all kinds of nonsense are attention seeking.
People who really have PTSD don't act like that. These morons are practically bragging about having PTSD like it's a sign of how victimized they are, like it's some kind of trophy. The thing is they're just repeating symptoms they read on the internet and don't realize they are a list of symptoms on a spectrum. That's how you know they are attention seeking, they self diagnose and then claim to have every symptom when that's not how PTSD works in reality.
And this doesn't just apply to eating disorders. It's a large portion of the SJW/FA/HAES/Tumblr(Dumblr is more accurate) crowd that does this. It's aggravating as someone with actual PTSD to listen to the fuckers talk about being "triggered" and wanting everyone else to fucking cater to them like they are some kind of special snowflake. It's fucking insulting.
Oh, then we agree. The internet diagnosed crowd(be it autism, adhd, ptsd or w/e) is mostly just a big sobbing circlejerk of self-pity and laziness.

I'm srsly not sure if you're trolling or just really, really ignorant. If you think eating disorders are nothing more than lack of self control you either possess not a shred of empathy or simply haven't been confronted with any actual eating disorders in your life(this assumes you aren't trolling). If you think that something like a 15 year old girl literally starving herself to death because of a distorted self-perception resulting from AN is "lack of self control" you're probably as empathetic as a rock.

Nah, you have worse issues than me by far. For one you lack comprehensive reading skills, and secondly those reading skills you lack may indicate a form of mental handicap.
My whole point was: as an actual person with PTSD, the fakers are easy to spot. Almost all FA/HAES/ SJW type groups use PTSD as their justification for their shit attitude, fatbess, poor health and general laziness.
If I can still be fit and active after suffering a real traumatic event, not caused by my over eating and weighing 400lbs, then there's no reason to use PTSD as why you're fat. That's a sign of a hypochondriac narcissist who wants attention.

I have no idea what it's like having PTSD. And I feel for you, my grandparents' best friends' son has it. But fortunately it's bearable for him...
On the other side, I've got an eating disorder. And I do have things that trigger it. Which ones? I still don't know, it's been years and I'm still struggling and learning what to avoid.
Doesn't excuse these landwhales for using the word though, they've got no condition at all that justifies the word "trigger".

You have no understanding of eating disorders. Its nothing like PTSD, and I don't think this girl was making reference to that. Eating disorders are serious mental conditions for those who suffer from it, even though you seem to think its a joke.
