    Voat is a clone of reddit written in C# using the associated Microsoft stack. The style of voat is in no way a clone of reddit, only sharing the same basic layout. If voat is stealing CSS from reddit, I'll eat my hat. Note I'm on mobile and haven't checked.

      I'm pretty sure they are, for example if a website made itself look exactly the same as Facebook, they could take them to court over theft of their design. You can copyright designs so websites would fall under that

      Hey I'm looking for an example for you, but I've got this quote regarding copyright law in Germany for example:

      "In Germany, when and what is protected is determined by copyright law, which examines the so-called “degree of originality” of a site. According to this rule, work is only protected if it has a certain degree of creativity. This means that if an individual creates a site that is considered to be sufficiently original it can be protected by copyright law."

      However, going from what I said, creating a website from scratch that ends up looking like another site will not be considered a breach in court. So in that aspect you would be correct. Its only if you copy direct code and graphics it appears. So in that sense, a direct "copy" of another site would breach copyright law. But a copy which you made from the ground up with your own code and graphics would not. It's a fine line apparently. I'd probably recant my earlier statement in favour of yours, as in court something like this would be very difficult to prove. Apologies.

          Just for fun. I was loosely following the whole metaredditcancer thing, and when I looked at the sub I saw all the mods were shadowbanned. So I requested it. Chances are it'll go to this guy anyway, as he asked before I did.

          But with all the contention surrounding it, I thought it'd be fun to stir the pot a little by requesting it. And it worked.
