I think Hillary Clinton has done something similar where she said she was being shot at when she landed at an airport somewhere in the middle east (maybe Saudi Arabia). From what I recall someone dug up a video of the incident where she and her staff people calmly walked across the tarmac without anyone worrying about gunfire or anything else.
