Whelp, this turned into a big mess. I left the moderatorship because I didn't do much modding, and I left it in the hands of someone I (still) expect to take good care of things. What I didn't know was that she had become angry with most of the other mods. I should emphasize that I gave her my blessing to change literally whatever she wanted about the sub, and just because she changed something I disagree with does not mean that she's top mod here. I feel like several of the former mods modded because they had a vision of a community that they wanted to shape, not because they were on a power trip. Turns out DQR felt differently. It's definitely frusterating, I hoped things would go smoothly and my Internet friends would get along. I wish DQR had been more forthright about her first moves as mod but I guess if she'd been I probably would have put someone else in charge.

added: I think the thing I did wrong here was assuming that the top modship was mine to give away. I definitely feel like if I had to do this over again I'd put devtez back on top, where he was originally. I was always essentially a placeholder.

Listen, imma lay it out. Devtesla and his crew of followers are kinda dicks. The reason they put so much work into this sub is because they got off on the power trip.

They are not coming back. The moderation of me_irl will not change, it just won't be as stupid.

I've seen people banned for absolutely no reason. I've seen a growing animosity towards the rapidly growing user base. I've been afraid to say anything because of the seemingly rabid devotion of Devtesla's little crew.

The moderation (not the policies, they are solid) was heading quickly down the path to /r/shibe and I'm not willing to let my favorite sub end up like that. Luckily, I found myself in a situation where I could do something about it.

So yeah, that's it. Old mods are gone, new mods are here to stay. People will still be banned for the same reasons they were banned before, but now there will be a minimum of bullshit power trip mod decisions.

Edit: For the record, I acted alone and did what I thought was best for the sub. I don't think devtesla is a bad person (I think he's a pretty awesome person, actually), I just couldn't let his moderating style continue in /r/me_irl.

I've seen a few of my former co-mods do some pretty horrible shit when the "group" (by which I mean Devtesla's cadre of followers) disagreed with or misinterpreted an individual. I have seen good people hurt. It's disgusting. Because of this, I knew there was no way to fix it without taking over completely. This had to be done.

My only other option was to abandon the sub, and I am convinced that it would have ended like /r/shibe did, within 6 months or so. The choice was mine to make, so I made it and moved forward.

I'm receiving a lot of hate over this already, but fuck it. I made my bed, I don't mind laying in it.
