"You know, I voted for the measure as well, the minimum wage measure," customer Edward Vallecillo said. "It's not something that I thought would affect certain specific small businesses. I feel sad."

No, no... minimum wage hikes help the poor and that's the end of the story. There's absolutely no consequences./s

Seeing how in SF to live, you need a higher wage than currently is offered, and there is a huge shortage of buildings, I have no sympathy. right now there is no doubt a company that can afford 20/hr wages wanting to be in SF. My company for instance pays an average of 60/hr. We want to move to SF but can't due to lack of locations.

Now this place is opening up, so now a company like mine can move into SF.

It is a freaking book store, people buy online now, and there are other book stores that seem to be able to handle this.

I'm sorry, but your failure to make profit is not my fault. And to think that this store which employs only a few people will be a net loss is silly, as just about any other business other than a bookstore will yield more employees.

So if the State keeps raising your expenses it's now the business' fault it can't turn a profit?

Well hang on, he's got a point. How is it his fault that the people of SF pushed them out of business, causing more unemployment and less revenue for the city/state? It's someone else's fault the minimum wage went up, of course.

You actually bring up a good point: The fact that the demand for real estate would have driven up the cost of rent even if the minimum wage had stayed the same. And that would have driven the book store out of business even if the minimum wage hadn't.

If businesses have to spend more money on employees, then they have to spend less money on rent. If that happens a lot (and the entire argument of the doomsayers is that it will), you would expect to see rent go down across the board.

Which means that the people who hold onto real estate have less money, and the people who actually work have more.

Brillant. Both our comments are useless.
