They are most likely the oversized rubber weights that aren't even that much. They use them to make it seem like they are lifting more than they actually are.

No they dont. They're "oversized" to match olympic standards to do the olympic lifts properly. They're not crossfit specific. You can buy them in different weights but the diameter is basically the same for all.

Not really, they're over sized because the actual weights are encased in polymers with other materials to allow them to be dropped without damaging the ground or the weight itself. These are typically used for training and not competitions since they are not precise. These kinds of weights are useful when you don't always have a proper Olympic lifting platform to absorb the impact. Granted regular iron plates would still destroy that platform.
