where the rest of us go to feel normal
DID Systems with Inner Worlds

To all my beloved systems out there with internal worlds or safe spaces that have bedrooms…..especially for kids, teens and the like.  As someone with a fairly large system, we know the difficulties that developing internal rooms can sometimes pose and we wanted to help anyone who’s stuck if we could.  Whether you’re stuck designing a room for an alter because they’re just too traumatized to think and have no idea what they like…?  Or maybe they like so MANY things after being deprived of simple comforts all their life that they’re having trouble simplifying…?  Perhaps you have a boy alter who wants a room but could care less what it looks like and just gave it over to you to do..and you have no idea where to start (buuut you don’t want screw it up!)…?  Orrrr, maybe your alter is SAYING they don’t care because they aren’t ‘allowed to’ have needs, but you know they do — and coming up with something for them out of thin air is absolutely overwhelming amounts of pressure…?  Or.  Maybe they’re a different gender than you and you’re trying to come up with something together because they’re just too young or maybe have a disability to do it alone ….annnd you’re just..not speaking the same language.  Maybe you have a part that really really struggles with making decisions, and every five seconds they COMPLETELY change the entire theme of what they want, and you’re getting burnt out trying to get something to ‘stick’.  Maybe you have someone who feels like they don’t deserve any comfort in their bedroom and have insisted everything be unwelcoming and hard…..and you can’t find an adequate compromise so that they’re well taken care of but not so overstimulated and ‘overcomforted’ that they struggle all day.  Orrr maybe the idea of a bedroom at all is traumatic to the part you’re working with (bc “bedrooms are ‘bad places’”) and they don’t know how to have their own space to get away and a nice place to sleep without being triggered all the time.
Well, hopefully?  Maybe some of these that we’ve found and collected can help just a little. Our hope is that it could at least help you and your littler ones in the brainstorming process at least by offering some good templates that may address a number of above-mentioned concerns all within one room. …but there are lots of varieties here and infinite possibilities after customizing them. So our hope is that if you or any of your kids/teens are struggling to find a room that really meets their needs, maybe these can help bridge some gaps in communication and supply a good place to start!  If you don’t need this, awesome!  But, we know we’ve run into this a lot with our system, especially every time a new part crops up (particularly newer kids and teens as opposed to adults, which is why we’ve put our focus there) — so we wanted to see if maybe other systems could benefit from the collection as well.  ….whatever your need(s) may be!

Here are some ideas for boys — some for those who may require less stimulation or busyness; others for that difficult in-between age where they aren’t a teenager but aren’t a little boy; and some others..

Some room ideas that are a little more feminine. ..for teens or girls needing something special, but still simplified.  ..orrr for those who may need to go all out in making their room a beautiful girly safe haven.

As well as ideas for rooms needing to be shared with another…

Here are some more slightly more gender neutral options — for teens or tweens who don’t want a specifically girly room or ‘a boys room’…

These are some ideas/templates with age-sliders in mind. ..those who go from being a kid to a teen and back to a kid again — an infant to little kid to a baby, etc — without having to completely change the room every time.
(sorry there aren’t more)

And lastly, here are bed ideas for kids/teens who struggle with sleeping on or seeing “a real bed”:
(which of course can be translated for any older parts’ rooms who have the same difficulty)

I hope this was useful to some of you.  If not, hopefully you just got to enjoy the pretty rooms :):)  Feel free to reblog if you think other systems could benefit, or — even though this is a bit lengthy already — add your own examples that you found helped your system through a snag :)
