I'm english living in vancouver. The food is good....... but man the bacon is terrible. Where is the proper bacon??

Wrong America.

Wrong Bacon.

What Americans call "bacon" is what we call "streaky bacon". What we call "bacon" is something you tend not to have at all.

You mean Canadian Bacon? We have that. It goes great with pineapple on pizza.

Canadian bacon is different from American bacon (streaky bacon) and those are both different from English bacon.

I'm English and love English bacon.. I can't imagine it any other way. What do American and Canadian bacon taste like in comparison?

Canadian bacon is crispy ham, American bacon is saltines except meat.

Saltines? Son, you had someone overcook your bacon. It's a terrible thing some people do - like putting the toilet paper in the improper overhand fashion.

I'm oversimplifying for him. What, do you want me to try to explain all the combinations of the salt and meat and fat flavor that go into every piece of bacon?

WOOOOOW 3EDGY5ME

I'm simplifying it, what did you expect?

Pork belly bacon has more flavour than loin bacon. English bacon is much more lean, so it's sort of like how filet mignon (while wonderful) is less flavourful than other fattier steaks, English bacon is more like ham--though much less like ham than Canadian bacon, heh.

You can find streaky bacon in the UK though.

Fat isn't the only flavour

"American" (streaky) bacon works really well with American pancakes and maple syrup as it gets crispy a lot easier than standard back bacon.

It's my go-to dinner on pancake day now, I'd really recommend it.

fried and cripsy to the point it snaps in half. Totally different to ours. And it's sliced so thinly.

A bacon butty it does not make.

not as good.

American here. Clicked your link, and I am infinitely intrigued by English bacon. I would absolutely annihilate a triple bacon pizza.

Then there is bacon in Australia!

What we call middle bacon, which is like a bit of English bacon and American bacon together. But we can also get just the meaty bit (short-cut bacon) and some places have proper streaky bacon.

Never seen Canadian bacon, but it doesn't look very tasty with the lack of fat.

That's a penis.

Also, canadian bacon really sucks. It's only good on a sandwich. Americans don't consider it bacon, more like "fried ham".

I guess I just assumed you were Canadian from your comment. Yes, obviously I know canadian bacon is different from american bacon. Why would you think that an American wouldn't know that?

I'm English and I was asserting that you didn't know the difference between English bacon and Canadian bacon.

can't we all just call it delicious pork?

Some pork is more delicious than other pork.

And yet, all pork is at least some delicious

As a native New Yorker the idea of pineapple on pizza is akin to defecating on your mom's Christmas dinner table. Keep that stuff where it belongs, in fruit salads and delicious cocktails us men are too insecure to order in public but really like.

I love pineapple on my pizza and genuinely dislike fruity alcoholic beverages, where's your god now?

You're clearly the antichrist

"Canadian bacon" is ham in Canada

It's all just pig, people.

It's all just people, pig.

Edit: It's not called "Canadian bacon". English and Canadian bacon are different cuts from the back. Nevermind.

Isn't that just ham ?

Where I'm from we have bacon and then "canadian bacon", not sure if its the same thing as what you have but I have always liked it. As someone else said here, its basically "crispy ham."

No, we have it it's just properly labeled as ham.

In the States we call their bacon "Canadian Bacon" to avoid any confusion and utter taste bud disasters. Basically we try to separate our bacon from theirs as much as possible.

Canadian bacon is called back bacon in Canada. It is usually only eaten on pizza with pineapple

That's how we eat Canadian bacon in the US too! And for some reason we call that "hawaiian pizza".

It's called the same thing here! Hawaiian pizza was actually "invented" in Canada.

But America perfected it when Dominos added bacon, hot sauce, red peppers, and sliced jalopenos.

Well, no.

Also known as city ham in a Waffle House.

No, their bacon is back bacon. Canadian bacon is just thin ham steaks.

America.

Went to Britain once in high school -- what you lot call bacon as basically a certain cut of ham over here. At least your ham has fat, though -- Canadian bacon is really lean (the fat gives that nice flavor).

VA maybe.

Probably. We know how to cook our ham (and other pig products) down here.

I personally like the bacon you get in an English breakfast. I need to go to a butcher soon to get that cut.

The truck from Bacon Bacon featured in this set has some of the best bacon and bacon related snacks available. Nothing fancy - just very well made basic bacon. Best bacon cheeseburger on the planet. Putting toppings on the Bacon Bacon cheeseburger to me, distorts the product. It's that good. Like when you have the best ice cream so all you want is a small dish of vanilla because you just want to cherish its perfect simple nuances. Only with bacon.

Are you sure you're not just eating that weird peameal bacon that those Canucks love?

SuperStore used to have UK bacon, not sure if they still have it. It was delicious.

Friendly advice - Find a good butcher shop or an Asian market. Buy a whole pork belly. Slice it and cook it however you like. The end result should be a mouthful of bacon meat. Fuck yeah (owww, my heart)...

In Denmark - that's where UK get the nice bacon from

In America. canadian bacon is just ham.

Canadian bacon isn't 'American bacon'. Canadian bacon is more ham, than bacon. Bacon is more fat than meat.

If it says Canadian bacon, run, run fast. Find new bacon.

Where is the proper bacon??

"Proper" bacon. Back bacon is good and all, but if you want crispy bacon it's better to use streaky bacon from the belly loin.

Honest truth; I didn't even know there were other types of bacon as a kid growing up in England. There was just bacon.

Same goes for tea as well. Going abroad and asking for a cup of tea and getting "What type of tea would you like?" was the most confusing thing...... leading to such great answers like "Tea tea? Normal tea?".
