Also, people got death treaths from angry gamers for vague unspecified reasons. Funny how you leave that out while it was a pretty big part of the whole controversy.

Gamers and pro-gamergate supporters also received death threats as well. It wasn't just a one sided thing.

The classic “both sides are back argument.

I leave that out because it's the fucking internet. If you post something public that gets attention then you're going to get insults and 'death threats'. Trying to attribute those to a specific group as if representative is ridiculous.

Every demographic gets death threats from every demographic. What's going on in your brain to only mention "angry gamers?" This is what the anonymity of the internet has afforded since its creation.

Everyone can write death threats. Trolls are an ancient race of hateful creatures who feed on negative reactions, they don't have anything to do with GG or the debate and should be ignored. If you choose to mention them please do so in the context of troll culture and don't pretend you are targeted because of your gender or ideology. That would be dishonest and shows exactly why GG is so important. Fucking dishonest ideologues who go around causing outrage in order to scam money and gain attention from people gullible enough to fall for that shit.

The SJW requirement for harassment is so laughably low that there is literally nothing keeping me from sending what they would consider harassment to any of their figureheads (or anyone with a public social media account really) in the space of 5 minutes, and there would be next to no repercussions for me apart from the possibility of the twitter account I created for that specific purpose being banned.

Let that sink in. People have been venting anger and trolling since humans could think. The difference is that now we can do it in seconds with no real worries to our well being.

So for SJW's to pretend that this is "real" harassment is hilarious. The best case scenario for them is that they are correct and they will be harassed the rest of their lives. Everyone else realizes it's the modern equivalent of hatemail and should be treated as even less valid a threat due to the non-existent barrier for entry.

What this means in the end is that it's really pretty damn near impossible to point to either the Pro-GG or Anti-GG crowds examples of harassment and say "This defines your cause. This is what you believe is acceptable", because the nature of social media makes it so easy for any troll with even a modicum of spare time to say something inflammatory in the hopes of making one side or the other look bad. And that is exactly what happens.

Uh, except that gamergate is supported by huge numbers of misogynist trolls, which is why the claim that its actually about ethics in journalism is not taken very seriously by most. If you look at the threats anti-GG males get and compare them (both in number and content) to the threats anti-GG females get, it's very apparent that gender plays a large role in who is targeted.

Yea. I get death threats. Almost every person who's ever played a competitive online game has gotten death threats. The difference is I don't try to be a martyr about it.

If you're a public figure and you do anything slightly unfavorable on the internet you will get death threats. It's not special and it's not meaningful.

Death threats are a dime a dozen, and so rarely are they ever backed up.

[–]Schaafwond 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (3子コメント)

Doesn't make it okay.

[–]hefnetefne 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (2子コメント)

I'm not saying they are okay, I'm saying they're not worth getting bent about.

[–]malenkylizards 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

What the hell does that mean? "I know it's not okay, but don't get upset about it."

If it's worth getting bent about a person making videos you don't like then it's certainly worth getting bent about someone receiving online harassment for said videos.
