I know gas prices are a joke but still, oil is the biggest industry in the world. SOME ONE will freaking hire me.

Sorry, but nobody will hire you right now. This is coming from someone just laid off in the Permian.

Are you watching the news? or are you delusional ? Any company that might hire you probably might let you go by the end of the month.

[–]CampBenChWell Site Geologist 5

I don't think you're understanding what's happening right now. Companies are laying people off. If those people, who have experience, are looking for a job they'll be chosen way ahead of you. You won't have any chance until oil gets to at least $70.

People are getting laid off, the fuck no they will not take on new hires.

When someone with experience tells you "this is a bad time" you should really listen to that, out in the field ignoring a warning like that can get you killed.

No one is hiring right now. Unless you have a petroleum engineering degree.

Gee, if only there were a school near you that offered one of the 2 or 3 best petroleum engineering degrees in the country ...

Why major in petroleum engineering and be pigeonholed in oil? I'd tell op to go major in cheme or me.

TAMU's letter to incoming PetE students. Note this was send out last year when oil prices were still $90/barrel

I have to applaud them for sending such a letter.
Most colleges are money hungry and will lie to students to get their money.

I think one would be better off with an industrial engineer degree or mechanical.

Yeah definitely. You also gotta look from the view of TAMU. They don't want their grads unemployed after graduation especially in the field they are boasting that they are top 3 in the nation.

I don't know about anymore but I know in '10 the department head made sure anyone who wasn't going to grad school had a job in the industry. They take care of their students.

It's times like this where I'm glad I went mechanical.

No, they really won't. You don't know more than people who are actually in the industry. For example, you think your application got rejected. It did not. That company is undergoing a hiring freeze right now, which means they are not allowed to hire even the best candidate in the world. For all you know, your application would have been accepted otherwise, and will be accepted if you apply when oil prices go back up.

But don't come here asking for advice, and then tell us, the actual workers of the industry you're trying to get into, that you know better. It's insulting.

Haha dag yo you feel insulted easily. As I can see now though from the comments, looks like I'm looking for opportunity at the wrong time and didn't know what I was talking about.

Aren't you the dipshit I told would get rejected for having a criminal record? You don't seem like the brightest fish in the shed.

Rejected for having a criminal record in the oilfield?

What the fuck are you talking about. I'm the only person at my company WITHOUT a record.

Talking about wireline, man. We aren't all a bunch of crackhead roughnecks, some of us undergo FBI background checks to work with explosives and radioactive equipment.

Slickline here, can confirm. I just did 5, count it 5! Background checks. TSA, BATF, etc... On top of the 7 drug tests I've undergone in the past 3 months. No kidding! And this is just standard protocol for the company i work for.

I have level five clearance for radiation, explosives, hazmat, and several others.

If you're looking to run wireline, frac, or cement with a criminal record you can pretty much forget it. You can't get a hazmat endorsement with a felony.

Lol, so the one job that requires that and doesn't even pay well?

Pays pretty fuckin fine to me. But then again, I don't have a coke budget to take into consideration.

Haha typical internet troll. No, I literally have a zero criminal record.

Except, of course, for the warrant out for your warrant, according to your submission history.

I paid that awhile ago.

So you think people who ask valid questions about things you posted a week ago are "trolls"? While asking dipshit questions and rejecting solid answers?

You don't really seem like you'd be bright enough to be a safe employee. Look for work elsewhere.
