The perception that money from the government is somehow free money is the biggest problem with American society today.

I indicated in /r/politics that there is no such thing as free and that those who buy into it are gullible. That any increased cost within the government, even though we are 18 TRILLION in debt, is passed onto the taxpayers.

I was instantly down voted into oblivion.

You weren't surprised by the downvotes were you? The majority of Americans in /r/politics and most of the rest of reddit as well as the Democrat party want to adopt European socialism.

[–]lo_there 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Which is hilarious considering how Europe's economy is performing.

In-depth politics isn't taught in school, and if it were, then it'd be biased. It's a no-win scenario.

I agree that the graphic is misleading...we're all paying for it through taxes. My question though is, why is that a bad thing? If by everyone paying taxes that means healthcare costs are cut by a staggering amount (see: other developed nations) then what's the issue here?

EDIT: Instead of downvoting me for simply asking a legitimate question, I would appreciate a response. Yes I realize I'm not a conservative as you probably figured out, but I'm going out of my way to come to this sub and try to understand your perspectives. The least you could do is try to help me see the light :)

My question though is, why is that a bad thing?

They tout it as "free". And its not just income taxes that are paying for this type of shit. An example would be the "free" community college: part of the funding would come from double taxing those who have 529 plans for their children's future college. I have a 9mo and I have started a 529 for him that I pay into - after tax. If I am going to be taxed again to pay for some asshole that can't make it on their own 2 feet like I did, that pisses me off.

If by everyone paying taxes that means healthcare costs are cut by a staggering amount (see: other developed nations) then what's the issue here?

And why should I be responsible for that? Just because "other developed nations" use this methodology does not mean it is right. The increased amount of taxes we would have to pay in my opinion is NOT worth the decreased costs in healthcare. FURTHERMORE 90% of my fucking healthcare is paid by my place of employment. It would be a complete money sink - I would pay WAY more and get zero value out of it. A complete waste.

The key here is that there are some things that our taxes pay for that we do not agree with. Of course taxes are necessary, but when they are used to fund ridiculous, unnecessary, or otherwise stupid things - that makes me rage. Do you just think that any frivolous thing the government wants to spend money on you should have to pay for?

That would be nice if it were true, but it's not. http://money.cnn.com/2013/08/29/pf/taxes/who-doesnt-pay-federal-income-taxes/

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free.

Requesting that screenshot of the house rep tweeting "health care should be free" and then one year later tweeting "why did my health care just shoot up in price?!"

I'll post it when I get home if no one else does. Absolutely hysterical, particularly given that she's a rep and should've been well aware of the implications.

Federal taxes should be used for roads, national parks, federal government operation, and federal protection of this nations citizens with use of military; that is all.

College, Healthcare, Welfare, etc., should be privately mandated by people who create businesses that insist on providing these services. If these businesses are not created because it is not economically feasible, then they won't be created until they are.

The only question at this point, is why does the Federal Government think these things are economically feasible? They're not.

[–]pipechapLibertarian Conservative 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Federal taxes should be used for roads

Through unincorporated areas with a very low population, maybe. There's a greater argument for localizing roadway payments considering how much monetary waste there is when the feds contract a company to do something. Lots of pocket lining for the amount of work that's actually being done, far from the best deal.

Amazing that anyone believes that any of this can be "free". It makes me very sad for the future of our country, and our worls, that we are raising such ignorant kids that anyone offering Free whatever is not laughed out of office.

Even if they are aware that the money has to come from "Someone" why on earth would they think that it does not impact them adversly when a "Beaurocracy" is tossed into the mix to distribute the money.

Don't they recognize that that additional layer of people has to be paid also?

Don't forget all those voters who were voting Obama in so they could get some of his "Obama money". They didn't just think they could get free stuff. They thought the government would literally generate money and pay them as reparation.

Mathew 4 sounds a lot like Emperor Obama's State of the Union Address

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

It's 2015 and companies like Apple post record profits quarterly, while dodging paying their share of taxes in the U.S. Obama tries to help out the less fortunate, and everyone just shits on any plan he has.

20 TRILLION dollars have been spent in the last 50 years trying to help the less fortunate. The results? More "less fortunate" folks as a percentage of the population than when they started. http://www.nationaljournal.com/all-powers/what-the-50-year-war-on-poverty-tells-us-about-government-20140107
