Please... please tell me this isn't real.

Why wouldn't it? He is one of if not the biggest people who play/talk about video games.

He probably has a bigger audience than any/most magazine they could quote instead.

TB was talking about it today, I think he is quite right.

Waiting for this to be quote on the side of a box.

I worry this will lead to the downfall of peer reviewed content. If this starts becoming the norm, more youtubers will start whoring out their name for a quick buck.

Which in turn will lead to to the general public no longer trusting individual journalists.

No trust>No views>No content.

Traditional media just needs to sit on their hands for a few more years then everyone will be screaming for their return.

Do you really trust traditional critics in Gaming?

I don't trust anyone who whores out their name for cash. You can be a traditional critic and as long as you don't throw your name around on advertising I trust your opinion.

Once you introduce money coming from the products that your supposed to be unbiasdly reviewing you create a sense of bribery and mistrust,it doesn't matter if either of those actions take place.

You can be a traditional critic and as long as you don't throw your name around on advertising I trust your opinion.

How is this any different from having "Gamespot 11/10 : This game is the dogs bollocks"

So you just decided to reply to my comment without reading it?

Once again, how do you know he got paid for this blurb?

Are you just pulling that info from your arse?

Another thing, how do you know he got paid for this?, as far as I know it's free to quote people who have reviewed your game.

Exactly.

Didn't they hire him to play it at the game awards last year? If yes, isn't that kind of scummy to do that or am I old?

I just remember a movie getting blasted to bits for doing sorta the same thing.

I'm sure he's like anyone else and would graciously accept money to endorse almost anything.

I tried watching him for a minute but he was so fucking annoying. I'm sure he has all the kids under 11 watching him with his massive.

I consider him what an annoying Pee-wee Herman would be.

I have no clue.

But it's extremely stupid though. He is not a critic or reviewer. The point of those quotes is to appeal to authority. You don't see movies quoting some random youtuber who makes his money off of watching movies. The first thing I think of when I see a game which name drops him (Or any let's player as a matter of fact) is that the game ran out of good quotes.

I don't see how some hack, writing reviews is any more an authority than pewdie. I don't like his videos myself, but it would be hard to claim that any game critic has even got near his level of followers.

Yeah, but a magazine you can expect to have some sort of journalistic integrity. A YouTube personality isn't really held to the same standard.

Yeah, but a magazine you can expect to have some sort of journalistic integrity.

lol

Nobody reads magazines anymore. Shit is so outdated compared to the news online, especially in the gaming/computer world.

He has 34 000 000 subscribers on yt ...

Did I read that right?

Yes? That is quite a lot. Doesn't he also have the biggest subscriber amount?

Probably. Having 1 million subscribers makes you a celebrity on youtube and in the big leagues. Having 10 million means most people know who you are by name. 30 million? He's making more than a million a year easily.

Several million a year I think.

To be fair, he probably has the highest rate of subscriber burnout on YouTube as well.

Four million to be exact.

Yes he's by far the largest most popular gaming channel on YouTube.

Yes, and any time anyone creates a Youtube account they are automatically subscribed to him. Edit: Apparently this is no longer the case

On average he gets over 28,000 new subscribers every single day.

whaaaat how is that fair?

It's like the default subreddits here. People have to have some content to watch when they start.

Pretty sure its just a suggestion, it doesn't force you to sub him

But the average age of his viewer is lower than the age rating on the game.

Do you think that matters to a company trying to make as many sales as possible?

Of course it doesn't matter. It especially doesn't matter when your last game was as hyped as dead Island and didn't deliver. They are taking the path of least resistance to make money now.

I like to call it a reverse MLP effect.

The average IQ of his viewers is lower than the age rating on the game.

Influence = power

Pretty much.

If Obama said "buy this game" then that would be the quote they would write. Whoever has the most influence therefore has more power. Apparently PieDiePie has more influence over gaming sites like IGN now so it's not rocket science as to who's quote ends up in the advertising.

So basically exactly what I said?

So what's influence + privilege?

Well his audience are pre teens and kids. And the games age rating is higher. I know that's not a reason to not do it but just a point

I don't know, I know this pretty huge guy who only plays/talks about video games. Smells too.

I didn't know screaming like a fucking maniac was "talking about video games".

I've never heard of him.

He appeals to a different demographic than the one the game is intended for though. I'd totally understand it if it was a quote on the new COD box or something.

Because any other day people explain pewdiepies success by saying his audience is children.

This is not a children's game.

Doesn't matter when it comes to advertising.

I was playing Doom at age 5. That's not a children's game either.

Probably explains the short sentences and misplaced rage.

I was playing RE when I was about 8, that's b not a children's game but I loved it

neither is GTA but here we are

It's real, and the fanboys are out in force, apparently.

Whose opinion would you rather hear? A professional critic?

IS THIS REAL LIFE

Well it's not like they sent gaming websites or magazines a copy of this game to review. It actually makes a lot of sense that this is the only quote they could put on the board.

I think the developers knows that Dying Light won't get massive critical acclaim. And the only way to sell it is via YouTube Let's Plays and hope that it picks up through word of mouth. It's smart money.
