This just in: If You’re White and You Breathe Oxygen, You’re Racist!
This story fucking disgusts me. People shitting all over a little fucking girl, a TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL and saying she’s racist because she saw a hairstyle that she liked and wanted it. I wish from the bottom of my heart that this child didn’t apologize because she did nothing wrong. Hair is hair. Clearly in context it isn’t a racist statement.
She can box braid her hair just like people of non-European descent are completely entitled to coloring their hair blonde. People with curly hair are allowed to chemically straighten it.
Does racism exist? OH YEAH. Do I agree with everything the author of this article had to say? No. But bottom line, a twelve year old little girl who loved her new hair (which I think looks cute, btw) got attacked on the internet for no fucking reason.
How can anyone ever understand another person’s culture or enjoy it when it’s treated like something that should never be shared?
Culture was never meant to be “shared” I don’t know where people are getting this from. It’s racist and culturally appropriative for her to have this hairstyle.
I do think it’s horrific the way teenage and preteen girls get verbally attacked and harassed for things, though. Like, MOST people are pretty shitty in some ways at the very least when they’re 12.
Kids and teens and pre-teens are shitty and make shitty decisions. This is a fact of life. It is also possible for people to educate them about their shittiness without bullying.
Young people… I know black kids don’t have the luxury of ignorance about the world. But white kids have it. And it kind of isn’t their fault. That you can leave up to their elders. I tend to be more of the take aside and explain a thing type person. But I guess that’s just the weirdness of me supervising teenagers.
Man I miss the 90’s where school’s had Cultural days and you SHARED each other’s cultures and it was thought of to be a good thing to you know better accept each other. Never heard any little girls crying about ‘appropriation’ because it’s not, when you appreciate someone’s culture, or like a hair style. But I forget she is white and privileged and should be hated because of this.
