I WAS IN FANDOM SINCE BEFORE YOU WERE BOOOOORN! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
……………………………………………..does this baby anon really think that once we get to ~30 we have to quit fandom
yeah no
wat.
(Also, I’d forgotten I was born the same year as Optimus Prime…)
What, is this some Logan’s Run bullshit? :)
Son, I’ve got logins on muds older than you!
duh everyone knows that at the stroke of midnight, at age 18, your fandoms become “getting the mail in” and “paying income taxes” and “crumbing into dust and dying because you’re old, so so goddamn old now”
not like “going to work, buying your own goddam copy of Pokemon with your own money and crashing on the couch eating ice cream for dinner if you damn well feel like it”
look i am 100% behind the whole “yes, i’m in fandom and an adult” thing because i am in fandom and 28 myself, but everyone making fun of the anon really rubs me the wrong way
IF YOU ARE AN ADULT, YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR AGE OR SOME MENTION OF THE FACT THAT YOU’RE 18+ IN YOUR DESCRIPTION
why?
some kids don’t feel comfortable with adults following them or commenting on their selfies or liking their selfies or having adults reading their personal posts and AS ADULTS, y’all should be able to RESPECT THAT because that’s what mature individuals do. they respect the boundaries of other people, especially kids.
y’all are supposedly adults. fucking act like it.
(for better context, here’s someone else’s tags on the reblog of this BS reply that set me off, triumphantly agreeing with this absurd “fandom and all of tumblr is a SAFE SPACE” bull that’s little more than the latest of tumblr’s echochamber culture buzzwords to make other people behave how you want them to via shaming tactics. It’s unfair to say Anotherfreakingdork’s reply alone is what made me so mad, as it was the amazing duo of these two TOGETHER that fueled the straw that broke the camel’s back.)
You’ve apparently missed the part where I am not following anyone who’s told me not to due to their age (that I’m aware of. I don’t follow very many people I don’t know), and that this person came to me, on my blog, randomly, after supposedly following me for a while because they converted the age on my joke-character doodle. I’ve even stated multiple times how old I am when asked or just casually when speaking over the course of running this blog.
How should I “fucking act like it” when I’m on my blog, doing nothing more than posting art, reblogs, or commenting on a series I like. How exactly should I be acting, since you’re the authority here? What exactly am I doing that is so out of bounds that you’re going to put on your big pants and try to shame me for acting immaturely? Because I didn’t put my age on my side bar to warn some teenager that, guess what, ADULTS ARE ON THE INTERNET TOO? Or was it because I replied to someone who was, frankly, acting ridiculous given the situation with some equally ridiculous gifs and dared to point out “Kid, i’ve been in this race longer than you’ve been alive”. Or is it my blog? Am I preying on children by ont stating my age and then supplying them with sweet, nasty porn? Because last I checked, everything I post would fly under a PG - PG-13 rating at the most. I do not engage in inappropriate “predatory” speech with anyone, especially not someone who is clearly a minor. I have stated explicitly in the past I would not answer a single sexually themed ask (from anyone, really, because sexual asks from strangers over tumblr is just completely “not my thang”). Listen, I am litearlly only here to post artwork, reblog artwork I like, and geek out about a comic series that I like.
Exactly where in the rules of Tumblr’s sign up does it state that I HAVE to publish how old I am (a thing I find to be -completely irrelevant to the purpose of my blog, especially considering I get shit for being over 25 from people who think anyone over that age is a decrepit old hag). Please tell me exactly where in tumblr’s user agreement and rules of conduct that it states that I MUST put my age in my side bar.
Please tell me in what bizzaro world we’re living in where an adult simply cannot go about their business in their own blog or else it is a form of entrapment. Technically this blog would be -my- “SAFE SPACE” here on tumblr (that’s a laugh, this is a public website and full of so much incredibly scandalous content, actual nazis, more porn blogs than you can shake a meme at, and Homestuck itself, again the focus of my blog, is not exactly minor friendly).
Here’s the real deal: If you want a safe space, get a locked online journal, password lock your tumblr and only give it to your friends, or don’t use a website that has an incredibly vast amount of adult content on it and then act shocked that you may find an adult “here or there”.
Here’s another real deal: It’s INCREDIBLY OFFENSIVE that you, and anyone else agreeing with this sentiment, including the original asker, act like that just because I am 30 years old, literally minding my own business on the blog I run, that I am some sort of fucking internet predator. My age means that I am obviously here for nefarious reasons and not simply to share the artwork I do.
You’re telling me to respect someone who was frankly acting out of line and ridiculous, insinuating that I have literally NO RIGHT TO BE IN FANDOM/ON THIS WEBSITE, due to my age.
So where is my respect? Because, as far as I can tell, I’m not getting any with this frankly bullshit attitude. I feel like i’m being shit on just because I started a blog and wasn’t the “right age” for it. I feel like I’m being accused of being some pervert or some danger to a (again, laughable) “SAFE SPACE” like tumblr and fandoms in general. Not because I followed someone, not because I “bullied” someone or reblogged their selfie making fun of them
but simply because I run a blog where I post COMPLETELY SAFE FOR WORK, TAME AS HELL artwork, occasionally answer sewing questions, or talk about stupid crap like “man, my glasses keep falling down my face”. My simple presence is, as you seem to be rampantly agreeing with, disrespecting the boundaries because I am… here and an “INAPPROPRIATE” age.
So I should quit my job too, since as a storyboard artist, concept artist and comic artist I am directly disrespecting minors by not warning them that the content created for their “safe space” fandoms they are about to consume is, in fact, created by a 30 year old internet predator? So when I do fan art of one of the same “fandoms” i’ve worked for, I’m even more out of line?
Man, take this ageist bullshit and get it the hell out of here. Listen to yourself and how ridiculous it is that you’re demanding that I wear a “warning sticker” because… because why? By this logic, considering I don’t post any “adult content” on my blog, I should be wearing a giant sign around my neck everywhere I go to warn any young kids or teenager of the perils of being around some 30 year old woman. Christ tho, I still look about like I’m 19. I could easily pass for a teenager. Should I get plastic surgery?? Should I break my legs and extend them so I’m more than 5 feet tall? I really hope I’m not invalidating any “SAFE SPACES” like, maybe, the grocery store or the local cafe by appearing to be way younger than I really am.
But since you asked oh, so nicely, and oh SO maturely. I’ll prostrate myself before your demand and humble myself as the hideous little gremlin I am. No more shall I prey on these wee ones with my horrible years of life that I have exceeded beyond the golden temple of high school. I will, as you so triumphantly demanded, “fucking act like it”:
Waitwaitwait, is this person trying to say that fandom “belongs” to minors? Because that’s not only hilarious, it’s...
