cis folks putting that they’re cis in their blogs is very crucial to maintaining boundaries with other trans bloggers (like it’s a good idea to put if you’re neurotypical, white, afab, etc) and maintaining transparency during activism.
saying “if cis people have to do this, then trans people do too” is a false equivalence. trans people’s lives can be in danger if they say they’re trans to the wrong person; a cis person will never face that issue. there is no reason why a cis person should be uncomfortable with saying they’re cis. if they do and it’s because they’re uncomfortable w talking about their gender aab then…they probably aren’t cis tbqh, and that’s a whole other issue.
tldr cis people identifying themselves as such
- creates transparency in activism
- helps un-“other” trans identities (ie it normalizes discussing gender aab vs. self identified gender which usually only happens amongst trans folks)
- makes trans people who want to avoid cis people online feel safer
