Is it just me, or are 90% of white complaints about black-centered movies boil down to "this isn't about, or involve me, so it must be terrible"?

This is what boggles my mind. I'm always arguing for more representation of non-whites and non-males in media, but I'm always told by white guys that representation isn't really that important. That I should still enjoy a game or movie that doesn't have a woman or black character in it because it "doesn't make a big difference in who the characters are."

Yet when something is made that doesn't represent them, they throw a shit fit and complain that something dares to exist without someone like them in it, and nobody wants to watch that so it's not going to sell. The delusion is truly massive, I tells ya.

also an interesting read on the actual historical accuracy of not just the movie but of the criticism against it. the only thing they may actually have a legitimate complaint about is whether LBJ authorized Hoover to harass King as the movie implies. But he most definitely had knowledge of what Hoover was doing.

what is crazy to me is that people wanted to give credit to Johnson for thinking of Selma and say he was not reluctant to act. As the article points out, that couldn't possibly be true seeing as how organizers had been demonstrating there for years, and king had already come up with a plan before talking with LBJ. Not to mention the numerous sit ins and demonstrations at white house and capital, that actually happened and were not embellishments for the sake of making the movie more dramatic. People wouldn't have protested the administration's failure to act if things went down like critics of Selma say
