This is exactly why I have a hard time when people lump Muslims and Christians under the banner of "fundamentalism". True, we are both holding fast to our own dogmas, but we are as far apart ideologically as the east is from the west. This cartoon says it very succinctly.

No matter how muslims try and sugar coat it, their religion is a religion of terrorism: convert or die.

The problem is how much we tip toe with them. Here is a plan. They behead a journalist, we drop JDAMS on one of their schools. They bomb an office, we level a city block.

Really? Instead of bringing the terrorist to justice, we should bomb children who probably don't even know what a jihad is? And if they bomb an office, instead of making sure they don't bomb anyone else, we should murder innocent civilians who had nothing to do with the terror attack?!?!

Or we not stoop to their level and try to refrain from killing innocents.

Funny how most people don't know that. It wasn't just them being dicks. They killed every person who wouldn't convert...

While there are plenty of complaints to be had about the extremist sect of Islam, ignoring Christianity's own wildly violent history is not the way to make those complaints. Throughout history "radical christians" — or whatever label you want to give them: in this, we have only the power to describe — have committed their own very fair share of truly heinous, horrible things.

The quickest example that many of us — Americans — can ignore is the treatment of the Native Americans, who were often butchered like dogs for their refusal to convert to their invader's religion. There are more back every which way: the Crusades, the Hollocaust (which was defended by Hitler using many of the same pseudo-religious overtones that the jihadists of Islam use). If you want some closer to home, here's a list of 10 neo-christian terrorist attacks in America, by Americans. — Note that it's a Slate article, which means the tone is over-the-top critical, but the important facts are all in order.

Ignorance is no defense; arrogance less of one. Speak out against the extremists of Islam if you want, but it's wrong to act as if our religion is any better—the people who act in its name, unfortunately, in many, many cases are not.
