Taiwan-based notebook ODM Quanta Computer and Wiwynn, Taiwan-based ODM Wistron’s subsidiary specifically responsible for direct-account (white-box) sale of servers, are expected to see direct-account shipments of servers in 2015 significantly increase on year mainly due to fast growing demand for use in Internet data centers, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Taiwan ベースの Note PC ODM である Quanta Computer と、Wistron の子会社としてサーバー（ホワイト･ボックス）を販売する Wiwynnだが、2015年におけるサーバーのダイレクト販売量が、前年と比べて大幅に増加すると見込まれている。Taiwan のサプライ･チェーン･メーカーたちの話によると、インターネット･データセンターでの需要が急速に高まっていることが、その主たる要因となる。

Demand for servers under direct-account shipment will mainly come from Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook, as they will continue setting up Internet data centers to provide cloud computing services and be inclined to procure servers directly from makers instead of international vendors such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell, the sources said.

この、サーバーのダイレクト販売という需要は、主として Google／Amazon／Microsoft／Facebook などから生じている。つまり、それらの企業は、クラウド･コンピューティング･サービスを提供するための、インターネット·データセンターの構築において、従来からの HP や Dell といったブランドに換え、Taiwan のメーカーからダイレクトにサーバーを調達する傾向にあるのだ。

Their preferable adoption of direct-account supply is due to lower costs, the sources indicated. In addition, Quanta Computer and Wiwynn have been more flexible than international vendors in design and production to meet clients’ needs, the sources noted.

こうしたダイレクト販売によるサーバーが好まれるのは、その抑えられたコストに理由がある。さらに言えば、Quanta Computer や Wiwynn は、顧客のニーズやデザインに対応するという点で、インターナショナルなベンダーと比較して柔軟に対応できると、情報筋は指摘している。

Quanta Computer had direct-account shipments accounting for over 90% of total server shipments in 2014 and ODM shipments shrinking to less than 10%, the sources said. Quanta Computer will see direct-account server shipments in 2015 rise on year by 20-30%, the sources indicated. For Wiwynn, first-quarter 2015 direct-account server shipments will likely increase on year by about 100%, the sources noted.

2014年の Quanta Computer におけるサーバー･ビジネスは、その 90% 以上がダイレクト販売により占められており、ODM としての出荷量は 10％未満に縮小している。そして、2015年においては、ダイレクト販売によるサーバー出荷量が、前年比で 20%〜30％増になると予測されている。Wiwynn については、2015年 Q1 におけるサーバーのダイレクト販売が、前年比で約 100％増になると、情報筋は指摘している。

Quanta に関しては、2012年の時点で、サーバー売上における 65% がダイレクト販売からのものとなり、2013年には 85% に至ると予測されていました。また、出荷量に関しては、2012年が 120万台の実績で、2013年が 132万台の予測だと言われていました。ダイレクト販売の売上比率は、その時点での予測値と、ほぼ一致しているので、販売量にも大きなズレは生じていないのだろうと思います。それにしても、グローバルなブランドを相手に、こうしたビジネス･モデルを確立していく、台湾メーカーの底力には感心しますね。
