Religion is not to credit for the mathematic and scientific discoveries, because the scientists did not use any religious material to discover anything, I can guarantee you that.

Actually Islam was somewhat to credit for scientific discoveries:

As with all other branches of human knowledge, science, from an Islamic standpoint, is the study of nature as stemming from Tawhid, the Islamic conception of the "Oneness" of God. However later Islam stopped to be progressive:

According to many historians, science in the Muslim civilization flourished during the Middle Ages, but began declining at some time around the 14th to 16th centuries. At least some scholars blame this on the "rise of a clerical faction which froze this same science and withered its progress."
